Not only did he get his degree. He did it while working a full time factory job 40+ hours a week. He used his GI Bill to pay for it. He is prior military. He was in the USAF for 9 years. He has applied to hundreds of positions and done a few interviews. It's just crazy. He has never before had any problems of finding steady work. |

Thanks I hope it's worth it. While I'm not yet 40+, it won't be half a decade anymore before I reach that 'you're not worth anything anymore' (according to companies) age. I just hope having a master gives me some options I otherwise wouldn't have had.

In the Netherlands, many people who were in the military before go into law enforcement, and if they have a bachelor or higher (*ANY* bachelor, just to prove that you can function on at least that level), they can get into command positions fairly quickly by doing courses. Also, I've seen people do steps in between: military -> security guard (+study) -> law enforcement (+ courses) -> commanding officer Could that be an option for your husband? He already did the studying part to get his bachelor. I'm just throwing around some ideas around. Last edited by Katsunami; 03-20-2016 at 05:33 PM. |

I've lived in my new apartment for about three weeks. The unit has 12 tennants. When I moved in I was told there is no assigned parking. So Wednesday I come home from getting some groceries, park the car and take the groceries in. Thursday morning I take the dog out for a walk and notice someone has parked so close to me I can't open the driver's side doors. I didn't think much of it. Friday..same thing. Saturday (yesterday) I go out and the car is still parked there. WTF..I have no idea who's car this is so I put a note on the front door asking whoever's car it is, please move it. I need to get out.
Fast forward a couple of hours and one of the ladies living here raps on my door and has my note, saying she knows who's car it is that is blocking me. And that he did it on purpose because I was in "his spot". Really?? I go downstairs and rap on his door. I tried to be nice, asking him if he could please move his car. He barks at me that I parked in his spot and don't do it again. I tell him I was under the assumption that there were NO assigned spots. He tells me he doesn't give a damn..it's his spot. I said fine, I'll never go near his car again but move it for now, I need to get out today. It took him 2 hours but he finally moved it. I want to deflate his damn tires. I should have called the cops. Not that they would have done anything. Maybe have the car towed. That would have been perfect. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Rant over.. The managers of the apartment are not on sight. Called but got voice mail. They apparently don't work on the weekends.

Maybe I'm the exception but I've come to understand that there are both the official rules (no reserved spaces) but also the unofficial community rules (Joe ALWAYS parks in that spot) and part of moving into a new area is learning those rules and adopting to them.

My last house was near the Aloha Stadium, on game nights all of those unofficial rules were void, and I often didn't have a parking place at home. I had to drive down to the mall and take a bus home. |

Yeah, jerks are jerks.
In the garden apartment complex I lived in back in the 80s, the parking lot was behind the building. For about 7 years I parked in the space immediately behind my apartment, in line with my deck and rear entrance. Then the guy in the upstairs apartment got caught cheating and his wife left him. She was a nurse with early hours, so she had been parking at the back of the lot, lined up with the exit. His girlfriend moved in, she took "his" space, and he took "my" space -- reserving it by leaving the snow plow attachment to his pickup truck there when he was out. I knew I would be leaving in a year, so I took his wife's old spot. It wasn't too inconvenient, and I did get out quicker in the morning. Still, jerks are jerks. It's a waste of time talking to some people. |
