Looking at upgrading my TV.....

I'm looking at upgrading my e-book reader and my laptop... oh boy. It doesn't help that I'm cheapish, picky and indecisive. I think I might get a Sony Vaio EB series as my next laptop (my old one is going to my husband, our desktop has died and he we both need laptops for school, we've found that sharing one really doesn't cut it). I was thinking about the Macbooks but... too expensive, and I don't know how I feel about learning a new OS. I really want a laptop that will last and won't cause me a world of trouble or be unnecessarily slow.

As for my e-book readers, I've (semi-) decided to go for the Kindle DX, as I read a ton of PDFs and my Sony 505 just doesn't cut it. Some PDFs actually look great on it, others, not so much. I find that I really need a large screen reader. I wanted to get the Pocketbook 902 or 903, but the Pearl screen has sort of won me over. Also, My 505 is going to my husband, so I'd like to upgrade my "travel" reader to one of the new Sony models... but which one

I wanted to go for the 950, for the large screen, but that might be overkill, if I end up getting the Kindle DX... and the pink 350 is on sale, and so pretty! And it has a higher DPI! I'm just a little worried about missing the extra inch.

I think I'll be eating nothing but bread and garden vegetables this year.

I bought a MacBookpro last year and I like it, but it was a kind of culture-shock to switch from my dell-PC to Mac.
It took some time to get all switched over; especially the writing of my research suffered, as I switched from word for windows to Pages.......OpenOffice......now Word for Windows.
Perhaps I should have gone for the option of half the Mac for OS and the other half for Windows. But that's all hindsight. I'm good now, but it took some time.

I'm saving up for a Kindle-DX as I would love to have something that reads PDF's well, and my Kindles don't. I get some extra money by assisting a the polling station (175 euro's). We had three elections this last few years, which were good for two Kindles.

You get 175€ for assisting at a polling station We get 25€. And it's no fun at all. Last time I was called to assist with counting the votes, luckily I didn't have to stay because I was just there as a replacement. But once you get called, you always get called. Well, I'll pray the Dutch government falls soon, so you can earn some extra money

I'm considering going out for a run, but my legs are still a bit wobbly. Maybe I should postpone jogging until I'm completely cured

That's my one beef with my Kindles. No reflow of text in PDF files. Pan and zoom is a poor substitute. I keep hoping for a new firmware version that will fix that.

Yes, the 175 euro I spend all on myself. So: the more elections, the better.
And it's a really nice job. We have a great team and chatter away all day; not about politics....is forbidden as it might influence the voters.

I just ordered a Kettle Bell for some weight-training, as I can't run anymore. I always liked to train with weights and it's good for your figure as well.
Is your stomach-flu completely cured; did you have to take antibiotics?

My wife woke up early the day after Thanksgiving and bought a 42 inch for the bedroom. I didn't even realize she was gone that morning until she came home and woke me to set it up.

Stomach flu is caused by a virus, so no antibiotics. I'm not completely cured, but I didn't expect to be. I've been really really sick for three days. I'm still feeling a little dizzy and nauseous at times. But at least I no longer have a fever and I don't have to spend my whole day in the bathroom any more either

I used to have a 30-something inch television. I upgraded to a 42inch recently, complete with bluray home cinema system. It's fantastic . You won't regret upgrading!

I wouldn't expect it.

Amazon licenses Adobe's Mobile SDK to get PDF support for the Kindle. The Adobe software supports reflow, but the Kindle deliberately does not.

Offhand, I'd guess that the whole point of the KindleDX offering PDF viewing was to go after the education market, and textbooks that are beginning to appear in PDF format. PDF reflow requires the PDF be created with the tagging that will allow the viewer to do it. Many PDFs are not, and textbooks in particular may be structured in a manner, like multiple columns, where you don't want to reflow, as it would make hash of the content.

As if that would help. Most of these are pre-orders with an automatic 25% discount, plus the extra 10%. On top of that their prices are between 30%-50% cheaper than our local book prices.
