I'm sat here shivering, in doors - the heater failed earlier this morning, and the downstairs rooms haven't recovered yet ! - the alcohol thermometer reads 55F !

My late cat Bugsy was normally extremely dignified. He was a professional, specializing in rodents, and very good at it. Ordinary playing was beneath him.

Laser pointers were the exception. He was confused at first - "Why is the tip of my nose lighting up red?" - but he soon figured out I was responsible, and would bug me to got out in the hall with him and make the red dot he could go crazy chasing. He developed a growth on his abdomen. The vet said if Bugsy were younger, he would open him up and investigate, but Bugsy was about 14 at the time, and there was a risk that invasive surgery would be fatal. The vet said "Give him his favorite treats and lots of affection. When he declines too much, bring his in and I'll euthanize him.

He did not "go gentle into this good night" - a week before we had him euthanized, he caught and killed his last mouse.
