Hi everyone! I'm making my way through a paperback: Red Mars, science fiction by Kim Stanley Robinson. On the Kindle, I picked up Underground Airlines, historical fiction by Ben H. Winters.
Have a great weekend! |

Read The Outsider by Stephen King and enjoyed it.
There is a character crossover from Mr Mercedes (not really a spoiler, but just in case): Spoiler:

I finally finished House Swap by Rebecca Fleet. I was kind of dissappointed. It was advertised as a noir but it wasn't noir enough for me and not that suspenseful.
Moving on to Shroud of Eternity by Terry Goodkind. 2nd book in the Nicci Chronicles. |

The Asimov's was the expected good selection of stories. The Stupifying Stories were also good, but more MilSF than I'd expected. Not sure what's next. I'm still reading The name of the Rose, but I'm not sure for how much longer. I'm just not very interested in the characters or the situation. |

PS. Didn't the UK use fingerprinting in 1927 to help solve crimes? Next I'll try, Something From the Nightside by Simon Green. |

Oh, I thoroughly enjoyed those. I feel I should let you know, though, that those books end up crossing over with some of his other books and series: the generally standalone Shadows Fall gets a mention, the Haven/Forest Kingdom books get a blink-and-miss-it cameo, I believe one of the settings that comes into play is from his Deathstalker series, there's a substantial crossover with his Secret Histories series, and his Ghost Hunters series has its origin somewhere in all of that.
So, if you like this one - and despite the above, the first half-dozen books work as a self-contained arc - get ready to strap in for a lot more. |

Finished Without Fail, the sixth Jack Reacher book and last in my omnibus. It was very good.
Now I have to get going with Dandelion Wine for the New Leaf discussion in a couple days... likely I will be on the trailing end of that discussion, considering the timing of my read. |

I think this pentalogy is the last of her Valdemar books that I haven't read/re-read in the last couple of years. Time to rectify that.

Finished The Hill of Devi, a very fascinating non-fiction account of EM Forster narrating the details of his visit and stay at a small princely state in central India during 1912 to 1921. Through letters written home and personal recollections, Forster paints the picture of Dewas State, a strange, bewildering, and enchanting slice of pre-independence India.
In this collection, Forster shares insight into the lives of Indian royalty, and at times humorous accounts of the stark contrasts between excess and poverty he encounters. Intriguing read, after having gone through his another novel A Passage to India. Highly recommended. |
