Ah, apparently you didn't have a sock monkey as a child. http://sockmonkeycompany.com/
My grandmother made them for me. I still have one she made, though it is pretty love worn, tucked away in the closet. She even made different outfits for my monkey to wear. Mine was a girl monkey, and my brother had a boy monkey. Before she passed away she even made monkeys for each of my 3 sons. They didn't make it through my kids childhood, they were pretty rough on them. I noticed in a picture my niece sent me of her son that he was holding a sock monkey. I think she bought it on Etsy, I would have to ask her to be certain.
I guess you could say sock monkeys run in our family

No, I didn't have one. I must have had a deprived childhood.

I'll have to ask my mother if she had ever heard of it. It doesn't seem to be something that either side of my family either knew about or, at least, cared about.

Oh, in case you're wondering, no, I didn't really think that it was a gumby toy!

Thanks! I used my August credit (free with the car rental deal) and got 2 books. How often do they run sales like this?

At least once a month, there's something. 2 for 1, 3 for 2, half-price, etc.

There were 2 books on there that I wanted - got them for 1 credit, good deal. A few minutes after that transaction, received another email from Audible - "In Need Of More Credits? Buy Three Extra Credits Now - For Less!" Just in case there are another 2 credits I need. The Amazon machine is brilliant.

So - buying 3 credits for $35.88 - is that a good deal? Close to $12 a credit. I'm on the Gold Membership and pay $14.95 a month for 1 credit. You save $3, I guess it depends on how many books I want to get.

Anyone out there a fan of Dungeons & Dragons? If so, you'll love this one. Audible, to celebrate the 40th anniversary of D&D, had a very nice freebie: "The Legend of Drizzt: The Collected Stories" by R.A. Salvatore. It is read by "An All-Star Cast," including Felicia Day, Dan Harmon, Greg Grunberg, Tom Felton, Danny Pudi, Sean Astin, Melissa Rauch, Ice-T, Wil Wheaton, Al Yankovic, Michael Chiklis, and David Duchovny. This won't last long, though - specifically from now through August 20. If you are interested you can get the collection here. (Each of the 12 stories is also available individually, but I won't list them all here. Search on the collection title and you'll find them if you're interested.)

Enjoy!

The Legend of Drizzt: The Collected Stories expands upon the epic legend of the dark elf with 12 tales performed by the all-star cast of Felicia Day, Dan Harmon, Greg Grunberg, Tom Felton, Danny Pudi, Sean Astin, Melissa Rauch, Ice-T, Wil Wheaton, Al Yankovic, Michael Chiklis, and David Duchovny!

For years, the Legend of Drizzt has included short stories published in Forgotten Realms anthologies and Dragon magazine. Available here for the first time in audio are all the classic stories by the New York Times best-selling author R. A. Salvatore!

From the startling origin of Drizzt’s panther companion, to the tale of Jarlaxle and Entreri’s first encounter with the dragon sisters, the tales in The Collected Stories enrich this vividly-imagined series by building the world around Drizzt through exploring the backstories of side characters and magical locations.

In celebration of the 40th anniversary of Dungeon & Dragons this year, The Legend of Drizzt: The Collected Stories will be available for free for forty (40) days, starting August 12th 2014 12:01am ET through September 20th 2014 11:59PM ET.
