I see - thanks for the explanation. I believe that, here, if I bought alcohol for a minor, I would be held entirely responsible in law and the shop not at all. Of course it is a shop's legal responsibility not to sell alcohol direct to minors.

"Fred" came to mind first. It always does.

But if you want "Patricia II" you could call her Twoey as a nickname, a la Little Shop of Horrors and The Audrey II. Or perhaps not!

That's very good, considering my first impression of it being such a thin model relative to my previous experience.

Because he has a jealous wife, who would then see the Droid X as competition for her time? . No, actually I'm not that bad, but even I think the Droid X has a masculine look to it. That's why I didn't get one with my last phone upgrade, actually. Now though, I want one, because of the docking capabilities for both desk and car.

C. None Of The Above.

I know a Rachel and have known her for almost her entire life; that would get confusing on several levels.

When and if I name things (i.e. not pets), it's usually a title. My workstation, for instance, is the Destroyer, as in the US Naval designation; smaller than an aircraft carrier but bigger than a Coast Guard cutter, with outsize firepower. My next machine will likely be a dual-CPU monster and I'll probably name it Valkyrie or something.

For the 20 minutes a day that I actually use the WiFi tethering, the SSID of my Droid X is Monolith (as in 2001). I probably called it that when I first got it but decided "Droid X" had fewer syllables (and made me sound like less of a lunatic to the uninitiated).

Furthermore, my DX better not be dreaming of electric sheep; that wastes battery and CPU cycles.

What app do you use for tethering? I don't want to pay the $20 add-on at Verizon, but I'm thinking about downloading one of the apps, even if I have to pay a one-time fee.

I use the Android WiFi tether but it requires that the phone be rooted. Barnacle is another one but it has the same requirement. That's generally a limitation of the WiFi options; if you just want an internet connection via USB you can use (in order of price) EasyTether, PDAnet, or Tether for Android. I've used all 3 (bought EasyTether) and in my experience TforA is the fastest and most reliable (and natch the most expensive). I had the paid version of Tether on my Blackberry and it was indeed quite fast and stable. The free versions only allow regular web connections i.e. no HTTPS; the paid versions remove that limitation.

Laughing hysterically (and delightedly). I know a lot of people have no use whatsoever for Facebook, but without it I wouldn't be laughing right now, and this would NEVER have happened. There's a series by Carolyn Haines about Sarah Booth Delaney and the family ghost, Jitty. Sarah Booth kind of fell into being a private eye, and Jitty keeps trying to get her married off, since Sarah Booth is the last of the Delaney line. Sarah Booth and her partner in (solving) crime, Tinkie, don't stay still long enough to help Jitty out much with that goal, though.

Anyway... I sent a friend request to Carolyn Haines a minute ago, saying that I adore Jitty. Next thing I know, I got a message back from Carolyn informing me that "Jitty loves you too, Shelly"...and friend requests from Jitty the ghost, Sarah Booth Delaney, Tinkie, and another couple of characters. How do I explain to my family (okay, never mind MY family, they expect this kind of thing out of me, but Chris's family??) that I have not only a ghost, but a FICTIONAL ghost as a friend on Facebook?? I tried explaining it to Chris, and got a grin; but I think inside his eyes were glazing over, LOL.
