Okay. I checked my tablets file folders and the books all appeared to still be there, Calibre Companion just wasn't seeing them. I verified against my other tablet that the folder names were the same. (I think one of the issues with new Calibre Comapnion is that it moved and copied all the books to a new folder. I am so thankful I didn't actually open "new" Calibre Companion and so they remained where they should be.)

I changed the folder from default to the actual folder name in the where to store books option. Then I changed it back to default folder. After that I was able to get Calibre Companion connect to Calibre, and it "found" most of the books. This took over 20 minutes. It was odd which ones I know were on there, but it didn't find 70+ of them in my main library and many more in my vault library. I had to disconnect and change libraries (which is usual, and I am always careful to do so before switching libraries).

Finally figured out if the title was showing but no cover I needed to resend as it didn't recognize it as on device even though it showed up on the list on the device. Really odd as some showed in Calibre on device and other didn't so no other way to tell. That took over an hour.

But all seems well now. I am able to send books to Bookari and read them.

Really happy as I didn't want to resend all 3000+ books I have on there between 3 of my 4 Calibre libraries. This was a mess, but I was able to fix it in less time than that would have taken.

Highly recommend not accidentally updating CC though


I really wish there was a way to simply block apps from looking for updates on Android.

It looks like the app has turned into abaondonware. The folks that bought it from chaley have not been in the subforum in a very long time.

Yeah I did uninstall it and reinstalled the "good" Calibre Companion APK (the one before it got sold to other developers who ruined it before they abandoned it). That went very smoothly. I just couldn't get it to connect for a while. Turning everything off and on a few times and reassigning the folder then changing it back seems to have solved it.

I was in the beta group under the former owner and the stupid new owner pushed his update to the beta group without telling anyone. I was so happy I had a back up.

And yes Android really should allow blocking of updates. Probably can do that if you jailbreak a device, but you shouldn't have to go to that extreme.

The first title in James' Not Quite a Billionaire series, Fierce, was a long-term freebie for a while back in the 2018-ish time frame, but now it seems to sit at around $4.99/£3.99 at Kindle US/UK. And when it goes free these days, as it is right now, it's usually for a pretty short time. Which is a long-winded way of saying grab it now if you want it.

This series is a little steamier than James' Escape to New Zealand series, but I still liked them. It's amusing that this is the "book within a book" that Faith is writing in James' Just in Time.

The steamy new series by the bestselling author of Escape to New Zealand . . .
I never asked Hemi Te Mana to rescue me.
It was true that I had a lousy job. Not to mention a lousy apartment and too much responsibility, although it was a responsibility I wouldn't have given up for the world. That still didn't mean I needed rescuing, if that was what you'd call the situation I ended up in.

And anyway, I knew that a multimillionaire Maori CEO with too many muscles, a tribal tattoo, and a take-no-prisoners attitude was way, way out of my league.

So, no, I didn't ask him to, but he rescued me anyway. Because Hemi was fierce. But you know what I found out? So was I.

Note: This is the "book within a book" that Faith is writing in Just in Time: Escape to New Zealand. Hemi isn't Will, but you may see some of Faith's feelings about Will coming out. And, yes, it has more steam than the "Escape" books. Because Faith had a lot of sexual frustration to work through. If you don't like strong, determined alpha men and very spicy (but fully consensual) sex, DON'T buy this book. Maybe head for New Zealand instead.

Fate's Edge is the third in the Edge series by Ilona Andrews. It's part of the US Kindle Daily Deal today at $1.99, matched at Kobo US. I don't see titles in the Edge series go on sale very often, so grab it if you want it. For me, this was the last title in the series that I didn't have, although I had had a chance to read it from my local library. So I'm happy!

The Open Road-published version of this has dropped to $0.99 at Kindle and Kobo US right now, and it's discountable at Kobo. Note that there seem to be several versions of this, so make sure you get the one on sale.

The multiple versions thing often means it's in the public domain somewhere. But I've checked Project Gutenberg, and it doesn't show up there. I also checked Faded Page and PG Canada, and it doesn't show up there either. So I'm uncertain as to why the multiple versions, but since this particular one is Open Road, which is a reputable publisher, it should be okay.
