It has to do with the fact that a duck will swim on a water until it freezes and beyond before they leave it. It is one of the best insulated animals. Froid de canard means "cold that only ducks will brave".

I spent 3 months in Saudi Arabia once. So much sun shine that I was begging for a cloud. Saw some vented steam one day but it didn't last long. Clouds are good. (Most beautiful nights I ever saw though.)

Erm... no, pretty sure it was Paris, France... the travel agent told me all of that stuff and I believed it all.

I was also told that beautiful young maidens walk along the streets looking for a love affair with no ties from an international stranger.

yeah, but the deal with this is you can dash in, grab a couple of lines of MR and quickly resume gainful employment appearances. in my case however, if it is a particularly good book I might start drooling out of both sides of my mouth and become completely unresponsive to outside stimulus.
