you'd have a hard time renting a hotel room in the states without plastic, at least anything that rents more than by the hour
In the Netherlands people don't use credit cards as much as in many other countries. Debit cards is what we use daily and iDeal is its online payment version. A lot of people haven't even got a credit card because the rules to qualify are strict at most banks. It makes online purchases and booking holidays hard at times though.

Thank you, my exam went great!

I'm going to have to check out "Leverage". I haven't even heard of it (no surprise, though, there are a lot of shows that are never brought over here, or are brought over quite late.)

Being exceedingly grateful that I don't live in New York City. It lessens my chances of being arrested considerably.

And some non-English non-detective shows..

I, too, love English detectives, especially Midsommer Murders (ordered the first book today). At the moment I'm really into Being Human, the third series started last Sunday and I'm rewatching the first two on dvd. I also like various American series like West Wing, True Blood, NYPD Blue, etc. Most I buy on dvd because they are either not (yet) shown on tv or are on commercial tv channels who deliberately don't tell in the listings if they are airing a rerun or not, more often than not they are.

I just insulted one of our cats.

My mother was cleaning the litter box and, as always, Nikita needed to go. She's a very neat cat and does not do her business on the floor. A while back she managed to pry off the lid of the bucket my mother keeps the clean kitty litter in to pee in the bucket. Tonight I walked into the hallway to see and not exactly small cat perched on a not that big plant pot. She was really insulted when I started laughing at this sight. Luckily her aim was good, unfortunately there was a hole in the bottom of the pot.

She is now lying, stoned, inside the just cleaned, but empty, litter box: my mother uses a little bit of bleach to clean it (she rinses it really well) and Nikita loves the smell of bleach. We have some weird cats!

That is hysterical! A few months ago I was changing the cat litter and I put the raised lid to the litter box -- you know the kind that keeps them from scatttering litter so bad? -- on the floor. I turned my back a minute and when I turned back around my male cat Gus had neatly stepped inside the lid and was peeing onto the floor! I shrieked, but he seemed unable to stop mid-stream. I couldn't be mad, though, because technically he was kind of in the box...

So, overnight the package (Kindle 3 and light-case) made it to Brisbane, cleared customs, and is now "in transit" and a "local carrier will deliver the package within 2 business days". Squee!

I'm happy to report that the twins are hale and hearty, and now a full four inches tall! I just finished separating them and giving each its own bed.
