I want to win! I am a life-long avid reader. 1/3 of my living room is filled with bookshelves and books. My husband is in the Army and we recently found out that we will be going to Korea in January. Sadly, while the Army will pay to ship our six kids, it will NOT pay to ship my book collection. I need a reader so I can replace all my real books with digital copies and so I have something to occupy me on the 26 hour plane ride between the states and Korea.

I should win for all the obvious reasons.

I want a reader because...

...ravenne scolded me for not entering!

Seems kind of greedy, but if I win, I'll get a Kindle2, just to see what all the noise is about.

I am entering! I am entering!! I have been trying to come up with a good reason... and I can't decide which reader I want!

I want to go back to graduate school for my PhD, so one that reads texts books best sounds good... I love love love my 505, but have always wondered about a kindle, but maybe the ebookwise....

ok, now WHY? why do I deserve it? Hmm... well, I'm a good person who always tried to be nice and helpful (check out my posts here for proof ). Uh, (I'm aware that if this were a job interview, I'd be out the door by now) I rarely buy myself anything special, I have 3 young kids, a full-time job (educating other people's kids) and am always running all over the place taking care of my kids, yet I *always* find time to read. Reading is my passion. I read cereal boxes, shampoo bottles, everything I can. Since I am with my kids 24/7 (husband works late hours, no babysitters/family nearby), I look to reading as my little escape (well, that, and MR). I would love to have a reader to keep in my purse and one to keep at home so I can always have several different books going on at once!

Or, I might decide to give one to my son, who does things like read books at school dances (ok, he's 8, but all the other 8yos were running around kicking balloons and screaming to the music- he found a quiet corner to read). He is just like his mommy and reads while cleaning, walking around, vacuuming, etc. used to drive my mom crazy when I did it. It drives me crazy when he does that too (but also happy, in a perverse sort of way), so an ereader would at least help lift the load he carries around while he reads Wouldn't want him to strain his muscles!

Or, I could donate the reader to our school, or use it as a giveaway so people would buy tickets (or a silent auction item?). that way, I am a) getting ereaders into our community (I've only seen ONE ereader out and about, and it was on a plane, and i think it was a tourist), and b) making money for our school (that has been hard hit by budget cuts- like all schools, we have lost funds for things like books, and this could get a little more money in there).

Or, I could give it to some other person who is in need of a reader and really deserves it and cannot afford it!

see, I am undecided, but all my ideas are fantastic, are they not? So I am officially entering.

I'd love to win an eBook reader to replace my wife's Sony 500 (probably with a 505). As to why? Hmmmmmm...
  • I'm no longer a starving graduate student, but a just-scraping-by Post-Doc.
  • My salary as a post-doc is just above 50% of what I made when I was last in industry... 11 years ago.
  • The blue one, next to the fish.
  • I'm finally making progress on writing the papers I need to finish so I can fix the salary problem by getting a real job!

I wasn't going to enter... I have a kindle1 that I'm quite happy with aaaand, the DX is sounding like it needs a wee bit of work yet, so I figured I'm good!

But (there's always one of those, huh?) I'd like to get an ebook reader for my mom and nephew to share. They need large fonts (him because he's a wee bebe, her because she was afraid to have eye surgery and now really can't see well). I would love to be able to load up all of the books and papers she liked to read, and to load up a bunch of chapter books that she and my nephew could share when they read together.

Thank you for the chance to win!

I am entering the contest. I would like to win a Sony Reader, 505 or 700 so that I could be closer to having a "complete set." Though one of my eBook Readers would probably end up 'donated' to a friend who can not afford one but would use it to read library eBooks.

I would be sure to write a comparison between the one I win and the 2 I have to assist new MobileRead users in choosing their perfect device. I have been active in the Devices threads and always helpful where I can be.

I have tweeted this contest three times!!

I am entering the contest. I should win .. because I really want another device! (Mainly because this would mean that my girlfriend and I could have two separate devices) and because I really, really love ebooks (not sure why this separates me from the rest of the folk here, but then I do not want to be separated.
Oh and because another ebook reader would keep me from getting lost again

Count me in.
My toy box isn't full yet.
There is room for one more charger on my power bar.
There is one more USB port stuck way on the back of the PC that needs testing.

I generally refrain from bringing up this part of my life. But since this forum is basically anonymous, I'll put this forth.

Prologue
My mother was a fish.

~

My egg was laid in the Hudson River and there, in the darkness, I entered this world. My friends and family were the literary sort and at night we would gather together, crowding gill to gill, reading breathlessly by the glow of old Personal Digital Assistants we found buried now and then along the river's floor. It was a quiet life, but I swear it was a rich one; it was as fertile a medium for the imagination as any I have since known.

Still, as I aged my need to see the world with my own eyes expanded, and at last I sprouted arms and legs to match and climbed ashore. Once above I travelled widely; I have seen your great art and heard your great music and my heart thrills with passionate empathy as I watch your greatest plays performed. But what brought me here still remains beyond my grasp.

I have trouble holding books; I flip the pages badly; and invariably without meaning to I spill my drink or drop them in the tub, and the words seep into each other, diluted even further by the traitorous weeping of my own despairing eyes. Lately I've tried to find recourse in the LCD readers of my youth. Some good has come of this: among other things it introduced me to your forums, though given the nature of my experience I have had little to add to your discussions. But these readers' batteries are weak and the screens are tiny, and I'm afraid I cannot sense their glowing light at all without remembering most plainly the world I left behind forevermore.

And frankly the memories are unbearable. I walk along the Hudson and can't help flinging the things into the depths, to land on the heads of other young carpers who will one day follow my fins in search of sights unseen and wobbly kneecaps. This madness has also cost me an amour: just yesterday a young gentleman stared in astonishment as I hurled my Zaurus onto the waves, and at long last I let him know I was a fish. He cursed in a dry voice and left.

A life of reading poetry in the mud has left me ill-prepared to deal with this parching world. Shall I part my hair behind? Do I dare to eat a peach? I shall wear white flannel trousers, and walk upon the beach. I can hear my siblings reading, each to each.

I do not think that they will read to me.

I'd like a Kindle mark 2.

I want to enter this giveaway!

I'd like to win as, since I got my 505, I've just about stopped buying pBooks and switched to eBooks. However, when my wife looking round for new reading material, it's a bit harder to share the eBooks than the pBooks were, and a second Sony would solve that!

I reckon Crutledge should have a shot at winning, but I don't think he's entered.

So, if it's not too presumptuous, I'd like this to be an entry on his behalf.
