I got my first shot (AstraZeneca) yesterday morning. I was OK for most of the day, but I got a slight fever, headache and shivering in the evening and went to bed. Nothing serious, but enough that I didn't work today. I reckon I'll be fine tomorrow.

Here's hoping your wife will soon be eligible and a slot available for her to get her shot(s). It really does offer peace of mind. My wife and I have both felt like a great burden has been lifted. We're hoping now that the vaccine will soon become available to other family members. |

Too late now, but someone may have been trying to manipulate the poll result:
Krispy Kreme will give you a free doughnut every day this year — if you've been vaccinated Reading their web site fine print, Canada is excluded. Will Timmies step up? |

I've received my first jab and will get the second when it's available but I do have some misgivings, mostly relating to the abbreviated testing of the vaccines.
Obviously, I understand the urgency of getting a viable vaccine out there as fast as possible but I do worry that corners may have been cut in the name of expediency ( and sadly, profit for the pharmaceutical companies involved). I debated the limited protection offered by the vaccine against it's potential, long-term side-effects and decided it was worth the risk but not without qualms. |

Full disclosure: I’ve never had a KK and I don’t much like doughnuts anyway. Would trying a KK change that? I’m unlikely to find out. |

In my experience, mom and pop bakeries often have much better donuts than big chain bakeries like Krispy Kreme.

I don't know of any long-term side effects from any other vaccine, so it seems unlikely that there would be some for this vaccine.

Development and testing was rapid because: (a) all of the base work was already done, with SARS vaccine research; (b) all of the red tape was accelerated (not cut short or skimped on, but actually put onto desks and acted on immediately instead of left to linger for months or years; (c) the entire world was pulling together, and zillions of willing subjects put their hands up immediately to take part in testing; (d) the phases of testing and manufacture were run concurrently instead of sequentially (the risk here was only financial - a whole lot of ineffective vaccine could have needed to be tossed); (e) the pandemic was running rampant in a number of places, meaning that effective vaccine testing could take place (a high prevalence means you get good efficacy data quickly). ETA (f): the mRNA platform means that new vaccines can be produced extremely quickly, just from a technical point of view. It's an incredibly exciting platform and I expect we will hear a lot more about it in the future. If we as a global community pool resources and work together prioritising a technical problem, we can get it done. (Wouldn't it be nice if we applied this sort of effort to some other existential problems the globe has right now?) There isn't really much of a mechanism or precedent for occult very-long-term vaccine adverse effects. Vaccine side-effects typically show up either immediately or in a period of weeks. With mRNA vaccines, for example, all of the mRNA is rapidly destroyed in your body (within hours-to-days). Scientists who were closely following the research from the start (if the scientists and doctors in my circles are any indication) kept a very close eye on things for the few handful of months, then relaxed and embraced vaccination with open arms. Regardless, ongoing side effects surveillance is taking place in an effort to monitor incredibly low-incidence possibilities. That surveillance is active as well as passive in my country - several days after my vaccination I received a text survey, and there will be more. Last edited by meeera; 03-26-2021 at 05:00 AM. |

Got my shot yesterday at local pharmacy as a result of a cancellation. Moderna version. Other than redness and soreness at the shot spot, no side effects (yet). Sounds like it will become available to everybody in my state starting in April, with preference given to those already part of groups already getting shots. The clinics are limiting shots to those with age or medical to make sure that population is served quickly.
Edit: The date was moved to March 30 (MN) so next Tuesday. Last edited by Tarana; 03-26-2021 at 08:04 PM. |
