No logs to tally from.

One of the reasons I am considering switching to cdn77.com
Their network already has 29 data centers scattered around the world to serve the files from, not 3 like we are using now.

= = = =

I was just sitting here, thinking how easy it would be to switch from DreamHost to CDN77 -
those urls exist only in the imagination of my DNS server (cnames).

= = = =

Hmm... (2)
I could cname your mediafire account also -
Just in case a switch away from mediafire is suddenly called for.

I.E: in the pastebin index your cloud address of
http://www.mediafire.com/download/*
would become something like:
http://initial-mf.gunshi.org/*

Then if mediafire ever gives you grief -
the DNS cname could be changed in minutes, without ever touching the index page.

Hmm... (1)
And it occurred to me that I could also 'black hole' those same urls.
Or something rate controlled, say a download limit of 2 bytes per minute.

I followed jailbreak instructions for Voyage, then upgraded to firmware 5.8.1, applied KUAL, MRPI and screensaver and fonts hacks. Everything working perfectly. Thank you very much.
I also followed jailbreak instructions for Oasis. Everything seemed ok but when I applied KUAL and MRPI, KUAL would not open on the Oasis (Application Error message). Not sure whether is because jailbreak did.nt work properly or because KUAL doesn't work on Oasis.

Thanks for the thanks. It is great to hear success stories.

EDIT: Somehow that error message slipped right past me until I saw knc1's more thorough reply. Sorry. Time for morning coffee.

That message is typically caused by not installing the 'hotfix' -
Note:
The Oasis support is only a few hours old, nothing (except the 'hotfix') is packaged for the KOA.

Take two aspirins or two cups of tea or whatever is your choice and then:
Come back in 8 to 12 hours and try again.

All KOA owners:
Please keep us advised of what you find, we will fix things as fast as possible if you report them to us.

PS: We accept success stories here also.

Pissy notice to the hot linkers added to the "Notice" section.
Maybe somebody will get the idea that tetrabytes of download bandwidth is not free.

And if they don't, I might very well start rate limiting the hot-linkers to something unreasonable slow.

We need a picture of an Oasis running KUAL, for hackaday, I think. No flashy Jailbreak splash screen images yet, so no traction in the media... Marketing time is when the UX guys can help, but not before when disturbing our bits and bytes is not helpful. We need a marketing gimmick like a splash screen for "above the fold".

Also, what "hot linker warning" should I add to the postebin, if any? It has probably been copied anyway with warnings and attributions stripped, so perhaps too late for that.

Ahh... We can modify Branch Delay's jailbreak to display the jailbreak logo used by yifanlu and ixtab! That will legitimize it for the non-nerd crowd, right?

Our "classic" jailbreak splash screen is the key feature of the jailbreak, as far as the general public is concerned. And dropping that jailbreak document into the documents folder is another essential ingredient as well. Otherwise it is nearly invisible and potentially disappointing until KUAL is installed.

Since Branch Delay has formally announced that he is gone . . .
Let us see if some super moderator can transfer ownership of that thread.
(Some forum softwares allow that, I don't know about this one.)

Thanks for this, I have re-installed hotfix successfully, which I assume means the jailbreak has worked on the Oasis. KUAL still shows Application Error so I assume the issue must be KUAL.

Correct thing to do.

It is either KUAL or Amazon changed their support of Active Content documents for the Oasis model.

Thanks for the report - we will check into it.
(and maybe send you a test thingy to run)

Watch for an announcement in NiLuJe's Snapshots thread for when they all get re-packaged for Oasis support (you might want to subscribe to that thread).

See if USBnet works (using the search bar command). It is part of the factory install process (though a factory reset/restore erases the factory goodies). If you can SSH into a root shell, you can install most anything manually. But beware that we do not know where the serial posrt is (if any) in an Oasis, so bricking coud be permanent (until we find a debricking solution) and you must tread lightly in there and with great care. Or better, wait for the experienced devs (who have no Oasis to test on) to package up some hacks for you (now in progress).

There are a bunch of search bar ';' commands, yet to be documented publicly, that become available on a factory firmware. USBnet support is one of them. ;installHtml (which can run your own custom package) is another.

Not yet re-packaged for Oasis
and I am pretty sure the owner has upgraded away from the factory firmware image already.

Thanks, Given my level of technical inability, I think that I'll wait for the experts.

I thought BD said USBnet was built-in on the factory firmware, with a search bar command. I did warn it would be lost with a factory reset. But JB-style packages can be launched as well, for the bravest of souls. With no TTL serial support, a brick at that price would be devastating for most folks, so best to wait (though I would do it anyway myself, just so I could sleep at night).

Use your time on something else, any of the developers here can do the simple scripting things.

I should probably get back on my kindle video player with sound, in honor of twobob. Or do cancer research. Or figure out what is important from my new perspective. Old habits die hard.

If I do not check PMs, just email me if you need pastebin updates. I get weary from fear when I post here, missing the comfort and safety of days gone by.
