The color is more a pale bronze/brass than a rose (pale metallic yellow/brown rather than pinkish), and not visible from the front. If you want something different then I think there's a Russian-market only variant, the 'Mont Carlo' that is all-black, but has half the storage, which you can find at http://onyx-boox.ru/boox_monte-cristo

It may not be Russian-market only. Here is the website of a company that claims to be the sole authorized distributor of Onyx products in the USA - and each product they offer is something that I thought was Russian-market only. I wonder how legit this is?

Well, it's the same company that serves the Russian market, and is now spreading its wings to the US. Makes sense that they sell the same products, then.

Yes, the old US distributor (the original owner of the onyxboox.com domain) had been moribund for some time. I see that the Russian company is associated with a US online retailer that has the Monte Cristo on sale here.

And the Monte Cristo is rather expensive at $239.

Yes, the original (16GB) K-Pro is only ¥1280 = US$188.

V1.8.2 is out!

http://www.onyx-international.com.cn...-series-v1-8-2

...this time as google drive download instead of pcloud
Since my device started acting up yesterday (some user apps suddenly didn't work anymore) I bit the bullet and completely reflashed my kepler using the Mfg Tool (https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...&postcount=174). Worked like a charm (though it also resets language to Chinese, so you have to be able to navigate blindly to the language settings), updated to V1.8.2 afterwards and all is fine. My strange display problems when updating firmwares is also gone. So as expected, the Mfg Tool really completely resets your device.

Advice for a not-very-techy Android/Boox newbie?

(Apologies if these questions are answered elsewhere on the site - I have looked, but either can't find or can't understand the information.)
I'm mostly interested in trying to use my new Onyx Boox Kepler (bought and received in the UK from here) as a lo-fi e-ink word processor. I've never used an Android machine before, being a user of iOS and Mac OS, and a MacBook. I've done the firmware upload linked by sharkcow and opened Google Play, but the Kepler is still running Android 4.0.4, which means it is incompatible with the Dropbox app, as well most of the text-editing apps I'm interested in running. In addition, I can't make either of my foldable keyboards (the iClever, or an ancient but working iGo Stowaway) to the Kepler via bluetooth, despite them both working perfectly with all my other machines, and despite them seeming to connect - they just won't type, and the on-screen keyboard won't disappear.

Can anyone offer any insight into:

- when there might be an upgrade for the Kepler to a later version of Android, or how to jury-rig one (via a Mac, not PC)?

- how to get a bluetooth keyboard to work? (And if there are particular - foldable! - makes that work well with the Kepler, which?)

Many thanks for any advice.

Hi there & welcome to the kepler family
If google play store reports an app as incompatible, you can always try to get the apk installation file elsewhere (just google it), transfer it to your kepler and install manually. I've installed dropbox and a number of other apps this way successfully.

Hi sharkcow, and thanks so much. I tried, via sd card, but I'm getting 'there is a problem parsing the package' and can't find the security settings or figure out how to fix this. I'll keep pottering!

EDIT: The bluetooth keyboard I've now got to work (don't really know how). I'm just trying to figure out a working Dropbox/storage solutions to documents now. Thanks again for help.

I'm not using Dropbox and don't have a kepler (but the T68 that's running on the same old android 4.0), but you may try to experiment with older versions of the Dropbox app -some download pages even tell you which minimum version of android is required, so you could look out for the last version to support android 4.0 ics. Should be around somewhere on the net, I used to do that with some other apps for my nook simple touch with android 2.1

Hi

Did anyone have a chance to try KOreader on any of the Kepler units to see if it works without much crashes?

Tried it out today; obviously it's still work in progress. The latest version 1023 doesn't run at all, version 894 works but the font can't be changed (is always the same sans serif font). Version 696 is functional, although there is always a large (~3 lines of text) black bar at the bottom of the screen. Haven't experienced any crashes with version 696 yet.

yellowing of screen borders?

Hi all,

Since some time, I've been observing a yellowing of the screen on the edges on my kepler (see image - somewhat enhanced to show the effect clearly but it is definitely noticeable)... although this adds to the realism of paper pages, I'm a bit worried. I'm guessing some adhesive is gassing out. Has anyone else observed this?

thanks,
sharkcow
