If you make a backup, you are always safe (just backup everything on the kobodrive,every file and subdirectory) I always did,but never needed it.

If it helps, I doubt the next firmware will be released this month. But, I'm pretty confident that the extra flashing will be fixed whenever it is.

I've fixed my issues with screen flashing by reverting to epub, and tweaking the screen with thanks to geoff's patches, and JSwolf's settings to what I'd like. I thought I'd miss the reading stats, and the estimates about when I'd finish the current chapter, next chapter, and book, but I find I'm less distracted now that they're gone. Could have something to do with reading the collected Malazan series and how daunting it is seeing the estimated time left.

3.18.0 in Japan
Kobo have released firmware 3.18.0 in Japan. The interesting thing about this is that they are releasing this for the Mini as well. But, the Mini support is only for Japan. They are not planning to release this for the Mini in other markets.

That is good news for the Mini owners elsewhere. As the same firmware package is used for all markets, it shows it is safe to use this on the Mini. It also tells us that Kobo have not completely forgotten the Mini. At the least, they are testing the firmware with the Mini so they can us it in Japan.

To install this, you can either download the package and manually install it, or change the affiliate to "rakutenbooks" and do a sync. Changing the affiliate can affect other function on the device, so you might want to change the affiliate back after the upgrade.

Yes, it looks like the same build.

I didn't check before, but is using the same link. And the revinfo file for the copy I just downloaded is the same as the one from when 3.18.0 was released.

I've just installed 3.18.0 and yes, I too have been hit by the flash on opening the options/dictionary bug while reading an eBook with RMDSk.

I've been using 3.18.0 on my Mini for just on a month with no problems.

Yup. I mentioned this on page one of the thread, guess you didn't did read it.
Chat in, and report it. The more people that report it the more likely it will get fixed.

I have a Kobo original N905 Touch device with firmware 2.40b. I was unable to upgrade to any higher firmware due to the Msd card not being recognized issue.

I tried Firmware 3.18 and it seems to have resolved that issue.

Edit: On restarts I have to remove and replace the card! Half way fixed!
