I don't like the Chromecast because it doesn't come with a remote, and you have to use a phone (with wifi on, I'm guessing). Whereas the Fire TV Stick has a remote. Who wants to go hunting for their phone to watch TV?

I like the Chromecast for one thing. I can cast streaming stuff from my browser to my TV (like free, non paid, Hulu stuff). Otherwise I stick with my Roku.

i have read that there are somethings that one can do that the other cannot. That and I was kinda wondering about the difference in any channels/apps between the two.

Had trouble with my Chromecasts when I first got them. I think updates vastly improved them, and keeping them plugged into the wall rather than the TV for power has made them very reliable. They almost always work well. I like my Fire TV Stick but notice if it is not used for a few days I have to reboot it or I get buffering during whatever I watch.
I also have two new and one older Rokus. Roku is the best general purpose streaming device covering the most apps. For instance, Fire TV Stick will not do Google Play Movies or Vudu, Roku does both.
If you need Google anything it will likely work better on a Chromecast than the Fire TV Stick. Why have both? A back up device, and to cover the things the Fire TV Stick will not give you:
Google Play Movies, Google Play Music, Vudu, Plex (works better on Chromecast) and IMO Youtube works better on a Chromecast as well. The only caveat is you will want Jelly Bean or newer Android on a phone and/or tablet to use the Chromecast so all the apps work.

Roku is the go-to streaming device. Google Music is missing from Roku, Chromecast offers that, and Amazon Prime Music is missing from Roku, the Fire Stick offers that. Other than Google Music and casting entire web pages, Roku has things covered pretty well.
