androgyny ? no, that's something else...

Every assignment was a "group" assignment, and yet she gave out individual grades. Invariably, in my group I did 100% of the work, got a D+, while the girls in the same group got A's. That class became my "study hall", where I did all the homework for my other classes, because I knew no matter what I did, I was flunking anyway, so might as well leave my after school hours homework free, right?
really i wonder sometimes what pushes some people to become teachers.

My sister studied to be a teacher. Luckily she finally realized what I'd been telling her for years. She didn't like kids enough to be a teacher. Except for practice teaching in college, she never taught a class.

The effect of this repeated affirmation by the teacher is that people tell me I now (at near-38) write with the neat, largish handwriting of a 9 year old.

Getting an "A" (or an "F") isn't all it's cracked up to be in the scheme of life.

We didn't have "Gym"; we had "Sports". I was good at sports too (except for running), but that's because "Sports" was almost exclusively swimming. I swam like a fish...to such an extent that my nickname for several years actually was "Fish" (perhaps the fish the blue one is next to?).

I actually failed Home Ec because I just stopped showing up for class ... I hated it that much.

When it came time to graduate from high school, someone noticed that I had an "F" on my records .... and they simply made it "go away." I didn't ask anyone to do that .... but the powers that be simply disappeared it. Poof.

Now, hold on there .... I distinctly remember from extensive research into the faculty rules of the University of Wallamalloo, that Rule Number One was "NO POOFTAS."

Now, did I hear the word incorrectly?? I think not, since the entire bit is my cellphone ringtone.

I'm 62 and never grew up. My husband is the same age in one more month. Our kids think we're hippies (minus the drugs). I just like to call us one Zach past 40. Zach is our 22 year old grandson.

I started on my bookworm career at the age of 8 after a car accident. I was confined to the house for weeks and my poor Grandmother in desperation, pulled the Harvard Classics out of the Garage. I was hooked! I went from Dante's Inferno, to Grimm's fairytales to the Boxcar Twins. I've been reading compulsively ever since. Has anyone read Stephenie Meyer's Host yet? I like it a great deal, can't wait to see what else she writes.

Not an easy word to spell, without any reference other than sound, but it's actually "Woolloomooloo". It's a real place (Woolloomooloo, not the University ) and I often walked the dogs there, down to the harbourside (it's right next to Mrs Macquarie's Chair).

Nice try, but my smell is more "earthy"...though I'll concede probably as pleasant.

Yes...invisible...and inadvertently violent...and can fold from a 12 foot arm-and-leg span into a pocket size. Jerry, meet Adrian (don't shake hands unless you have medical insurance and access to nanotech hand-reattachment surgery facilities. He means well, but, well, he is a gibbon).

I know how you feel. I usually have Queen Zee translate it into French and thence into the Queen's English, and then send it back to me. It's the only way I can ever understand what I've just written. (Oh, and tell your mate I said "G'day", and have one for yourself too!)

Forums been busy enough for you today, Jerry.

I suppose the alternate to "misogyny" would be "misanthropy," though that tends to have more generic connotations. "Misandrony"?

I got Cs in handwriting, but I think I managed a B in typing. Other classes I got poor grades in were almost entirely from refusing to do homework when I was already acing the tests. I believe my high school had a policy that homework must count for 30% of the grade, which left my teachers as well as me in an awkward position (especially after my collage entrance test scores came in.)

Not counting the semester as an undergraduate when I overloaded on 5 classes and failed all 5. (I lost my job and had no food, among other distractions.) They asked me to take a break after that. :/
