Hm, I tried it on two Computers (both W10, 32 bit), and on both I can only exit the settings of the tool when the "save at exit" box is unchecked.

Which is very, very strange. I *think* I solved it, but I am not sure because I do not understand the change in behavior.

Perhaps an additional question from my side can help me. Are you changing the settings immediately after starting Word (and thus the add-in) or after for example 5 minutes?

At my older computer, I tried it under several circumstances, for first I thought it would perhaps take some time for saving. At the second computer, the purpose was only to test, so I opened an empty word document, clicked on the tool, opened the settings section and did some changes there. Then, I tried with the "sve ar exit" box checked, and when - after some seconds - nothing happened, I unchecked the box and tried again to exit. This time it was possible, but - of course - no changes in the settings had taken place.

In former versions there were no such problems - as fae as I remember, because it's not my custom to frequently change the Settings.

It is really, really strange since I have not touched that part at all. In fact, that checkbox doesn't do that much really (I know, it sounds strange). The only thing that checkbox does is update the settings in an internal datatable. The datatable is save in a later stage (either with the old or the new settings). Very strange indeed.
The reason I asked if you made the changes directly after starting or after 5 minutes was to exclude some interference with the conversion of the rulesset document. But that is out of the question.

I made some small changes in my current beta that might help. I also extended the logging for that part, so we can perhaps pinpoint the problem. On each of my test computers this words as designed. I tried it on Windows 7, Windows 8.1 and Windows 10 with Office 2007 and Office 2013.

I will make the beta available tonight.

What does the Analyze do?

When I ran the MSI Win10 popped a SmartScreen 'thing' declining to run the program, I did find a way to tell it to get out of my ^%$@!* way.

SmartScreen is an Internet Explorer feature, I never use IE. It occurred to me that it might be because the download comes from Google. Apple, MS, Google, Amazon et al seem to go out of there way to divert consumers into the clutches of their customers (advertisers).

Sigh... I had to revert to hosting the files on Google Drive, since Google Chrome did not want to download the file anymore. Now this. I will try to find out what the issue is this time.

For anyone that does want to know, here is a virustotal scan of the installer and a virustotal scan of the program itself. They are both clean.

I did some digging. Apparently this screen is displayed based on reputation of the file. So, if more people download it without problems, the screen will go away. I can get a head start if I buy an official certificate to sign my application, but since that will cost me between $295 - $900 a year, that is not going to happen. Even then there is no garantuee the SmartScreen will not appear. So, in short, there is nothing I can do about it.

I'm not bothered by the Smartscreen thing (never saw it before), I've disabled it in IE so hopefully it will stay out of my way henceforth

FWIW - I've used a Mediafire free account since it started (2003 under another name), today I get 50GB. I have files from 2006 there, never lost anything. I use it as a simple file host. There are upload size limits on Free accounts- last time I looked it was 200Mb; and 20GB on a $5.00 a month 1TB of storage account.

Allright, can you look in the directory %appdata%\Toxaris? There must be a file ePUBTools.log there and I am very interested in that one.

This is FYI, and for anyone else who is confronted with the SmartScreen popup after a download.

I've always found that I have to download the ePUBTools Add-on directly via a Firefox browser right-click->Save Link as..., or the equivalent in Chrome or Edge. For almost everything else (certainly all software) I download using Free Download Manager (FDM).

The problem is that FDM doesn't 'pick-up' the file name, it gets something like "0B8GR-_MbeemrSkVGejdnX1Q3SHc" rather than "ePUBTools_1.14.0-setup.msi". Even if I accept that name or I correct it manually, the downloaded file is garbage. Hence I revert to the browser's d/l.

Maybe I could tweak the FDM settings to make it work with your add-on downloads, but that might throw something else off kilter. I use FDM for up to 30 daily jobs and I've been using it since pre XP days, so changing to another download manager is not an option for me.

I suspect the SmartScreen popup might be something to do with Google Docs. I don't get the problem with downloads from Google Drive, they work fine with FDM and SmartScreen doesn't poke its oar in.

Microsoft's thinking might be -- downloading an MSI from a document file locker is a bit weird, so let's verify that the user actually knows what they're doing via SmartScreen.

My google drive knowledge is minimal. I'm interpreting the "https ://docs . google . com" in the following as Google Docs, viz



Other things I download from Google Drive take me to a Google page where I click a download button, similar to this one from Dropbox, sorry I don't have any GD links handy



But I'm not going to worry about it any further. My previous post was only intended to fill in some 'blanks' for your consideration.
