That's a good point.

I think I have the MD5 at home, those wont requires any significant bandwidth to post here, so I'll upload what I think are "safe" values this evening, if nobody else does first.

The md5 files are provided for troubleshooting an image that will not load.
The image files themselves and the individual components are each checksummed and the checksums are each cryptographicly signed by Amazon's private key.
The Kindle updater does check the signatures.
(If it didn't, then none of this nonsense to get our key onto the device would be required.)

But the point is well taken -
If a site does not include the md5sum files, then it is unlikely that they tested the copies of the images they are posting.

I'll mark the *.md5 files public.

But the 剽窃 without credit and failure to observe the terms of the open source licenses that require the modified sources to be published will no longer be tolerated by myself (at least, I can't speak for anyone else or this site).

So I will download your md5 files. I did not fully understand how the security works once you load your own keys, but I trust your md5 codes

I am stuck at step 6

When I put the update file "Update_jailbreak_hotfix_1.14.N_install.bin" on my kindle and eject the kindle, a message pop ups on the Kindle saying:

"Update error
An invalid update file has been loaded on your device. please go to www.amazon.com/devicesupport to access the Kindle Software Update page or to contact Kindle CUstomer Service for assistance"

Please help

what device are you using? KOA or international PW3?

I think more people in your situation have reported more success with "package #2 - the "hotfix package" that can be installed on consumer firmware - potentially any version- not that I consider this more risky than #1 "


I think enough people have used that, that I am comfortable putting that one in the wiki jailbreak page now, when I go to finish filling that out.

package #2 "did work", in the sense that the file did not got removed, I licked on "update kindle", the kindle restarted

1. How can I know if it was installed correctly? Will the jailbreak survive the firmware update?

2. I decompressed the mrpi file in the main folder, alongside the documents directory, and in the search bar i typed ";log mrpi"
The dialog closed without any sign.
How can I know it got installed? How can I trigger MrPI?

The MrPI application can handle multiple update_*.bin packages at the same time, just put them all in /mrpackages and trigger MrPI.

EDIT: I see the "Install MR packages in KUAL". Pretend I did not ask my second question

I think now - if you can open KUAL, then the hotfix worked.

The hot fix includes the "MKK" - "Mobileread Kindlet Kit" that KUAL requires.

and them the MR package installer won't do anything until you put new packages into that mrpackages folder on your kindle.

You probably did not read my previous posts

Your first post uses a hotfix that I don't use. My passage 6 is not the passage 6 of the first post.

So to be on the safe side I am assuming that what the first post says do not apply to me. This was the whole point.

I am using coplate's hotfix (here) instead of NiLuJe one (here)

The first post is using the latter. I am using the former

I'm not sure if i'm misunderstanding the first post or not but I was just able to downgrade my KT3 (G000K9) which was definitely running 5.8.10 to the factory firmware and jailbrake it following the instructions from the first post.

Am I misunderstanding the where it says "That means it will not work on: 5.8.8, 5.8.9, 5.8.10, ..., 5.8.99999999."? I took that as meaning that I wouldn't even be able to downgrade but I thought i'd give it a try anyway!

Have I actually jailbroken it or is it now broken in a subtle way that I can't seem to spot?

What happens when you try to install the test package?
Are you certain it wasn't running 5.8.1 rather than 5.8.10 ?
What link did you use for the factory initial firmware package?

I've attached the log from the test package

I'm 100% sure it was 5.8.10. I got it out of the box and let it update to the latest version before I knew anything about jailbraking.

It's updated back up to 5.8.10 now and jailbrake is definitely in tact.

If it makes any difference I had to press the update button twice. The first time the dialog went away instantly but on the second press it started to update though I might have just been impatient the first time.
