Lovely pic of the beach, Marc.

I thought turkeys were native to North America? Did someone import them to Australia, or are they native there as well? We have wild turkeys around where I live, and while I agree that they're not "beautiful" birds, I rather like them.

As for those boots... never in a million years. My idea of classy boots is something more like these:

wow, that's great ! and very nice of you to share ! i know that some people occasionally do type in the whole book, but you're right, it's a lot of work. as an alternative, have you checked to see if the text is available on Project gutenberg ? if not, and you have access to a scanner, you could scan the text, then use an OCR program to turn the scans into text (there are some threads around the forum on how to do this, also i believe slayda has a lot of experience). then, since you have the paper book, you can use it to compare to the result and correct any ocr errors. and if there are any illustrations you can include them.

of course, if you prefer to type in the whole thing, that will work as well.

It's already on the Internet Archive:
http://www.archive.org/details/wantedchaperon00fordiala
in pdf and a nasty txt file, which will be full or errors.

So there's no need to type it out. But do have a go at reformatting and correcting it, Lilac_Jive.

...
These Scrub Turkeys (also known as Bush Turkeys or Brush Turkeys) are natives to Australia. I've got pictures around here somewhere, but for now, here's the Wikipedia link:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australian_Brush-turkey

Normally, my policy is "Never trust anything that wears a large, yellow scrotum around its neck", but I make exceptions for the turkeys because they are extraordinarily "stupid" and naive, and somehow, to me, adorable with it. Not necessarily pretty ("ugly" even), but, to me, "pretty" is overrated, and "ugly" doesn't preclude attraction.

Note in the wikipedia article the point about "nests" ("1 to 1.5 metres high and up to 4 metres across"). They can be amazingly destructive in a garden, and are much disliked by some locals. I've seen one scratch (they walk forwards, flicking the stuff backwards with their big claws) all of the newly-spread-by-Council multi-cubic metres of mulch from one side of the road to a "nest" on the other.

They're all over the place here, including in the main street (Hastings Street) behind the beach, usually trying to find their way under the alfresco tables.

Cheers,
Marc

Yeah I did check and couldn't find it anywhere. I don't have a scanner, but even if I did the program presumably would have trouble because each page is illustrated (beautifully, in art nouveau) on the border.

Luckily it's a short book.

If you want to see it here's some piccies:

ah, Patricia to the rescue !

i can see why you're excited about that book, the illustrations are gorgeous. it's a shame you don't have a scanner, it would be really great to include them in the ebook.
