We're alike in both ways, badgoodDeb.

This is a period of history that was almost a complete blank in my mind until I listened to The Greatest Knight [William Marshal], written by Thomas Ashbridge and narrated by Derek Perkins. I had bought the audio of The Plantagenets, written by Dan Jones and narrated by Clive Chafer (a great listen, btw) two or three years ago and hadn't gotten around to listening to it. I probably will wait quite a bit of time still to do it, in order to focus on improving what are now weaker areas of my knowledge of history.

Likewise, for some reason, I just can't get "into" streaming audio. I want to own it, so that I can listen to it on my own terms, not the ones of the company providing the audio.

I don't mind the streaming restriction since it's a free listen. I just wish Channels was available on Fire and Echo devices. I'm not pleased that Amazon excluded its own devices from this new feature.

That's right. That's even worse than not having it on Fire/Echo devices.

Whispersync: Audible (£1.99) | Kindle (£3.29)

I've done some stupid things in my time. I've been reckless. I've broken a few rules. But never before have I ruined so many lives or left such a trail of destruction behind me.

As Max would be the first to admit, she's never been one for rules. They tend to happen to other people. But this time she's gone too far, and everyone is paying the price. Grounded until the end of time, how can she ever put things right?

Har, Matey! Buy the WS Deal on this Book about Pirates or I'll Make Ye Walk the Plank

Admittedly, this audiobook will not be for everyone.

I generally do not "go for" revisionist histories, of which this is one. I'll take some things said in the audiobook with a grain of salt. But I thought that this audiobook/book might make an entertaining listen/read, and a truly educational one except for, perhaps, the revisionist matter.

Of course, it's a fantastic bargain compared to the regular Audible price for the audio alone, or I wouldn't be posting it (or buying it for myself). In this case, the Whispersync deal (audiobook, ebook, and syncing) is only 31% of the price of the audiobook alone at Audible.

BTW--the author apparently argues that walking the plank never happened. And, a question that I hope he answers: did pirates really go around saying "har" all of the time? Maybe the book will tell . . . .

Title: Under the Black Flag: The Romance and the Reality of Life Among the Pirates.
Genre: Non-Fiction (Naval/Caribbean & West Indies).
Author(s): David Cordingly.
Price: $6.48 ($1.99 ebook (marked down) + $4.49 Whispersync audio).
Regular Price of Audio, by Itself, at Audible: $20.95 (1 credit).
Ebook Rating/Number of Reviews: 4.3 stars/228 reviews, with a good distribution (Amazon).
Audio Rating/Number of Ratings: 3.8/116 ratings.
Pages/Audio Length: 336/10 hours and 34 minutes.
Narrator(s): Don Hagen.
Audible URL: http://www.audible.com/pd/History/Un...ok/B006FKPGO4/.
Amazon URL (you can get the whole Whispersync deal here): https://www.amazon.com/Under-Black-F.../dp/B004FEG2R2.
Comments: The book is the #1 seller in the Kindle store in one category; it is also #1 in one physical books category at Amazon.
Book Description (Amazon):
For this rousing, revisionist history, the former head of exhibitions at England's National Maritime Museum has combed original documents and records to produce a most authoritative and definitive account of piracy's "Golden Age." As he explodes many accepted myths (i.e. "walking the plank" is pure fiction), Cordingly replaces them with a truth that is more complex and often bloodier. 16 pp. of photos. Maps.

From the Hardcover edition.

$3.95 -- The Eaton -- John Addis/ Jeff Hays --> 11.0 hrs/ R-3.9 --> suspense

Quote:
Whispersync: Audible ($1.99) | Kindle ($2.99)

Spanning over 100 years of mid-Michigan history, The Eaton tells the story of Sam Spicer, a young entrepreneur who purchases the dilapidated Michigan Central Railroad Depot in Eaton Rapids with the dream of opening a hot new martini bar. But when he and his friends discover an abandoned underground hotel directly beneath the property, they must discover what happened to the original guests—before their own time runs out.

The Eaton is the debut novel of John K. Addis, and combines a flashback-based narrative structure with the gruesome style of '80s horror classics, creating a unique new voice critics are calling "fresh, original, and truly terrifying."

One Night with the Wealthy Rancher

Whispersync: no deals at this time | Audible

Sometimes a knight in shining armor wears a Stetson

Seven years ago, as a young cop, Darius Franklin saved a vulnerable woman from a violent situation. They shared one night of pure passion before she walked away. Now Darius is a wealthy rancher and security contractor working at a women's shelter. And he's shocked to meet the new social worker: Summer Martindale, a beautiful damsel no longer in distress.

Darius has never been able to forget that night—or forgive Summer for the pain she caused him when she left. And he's suspicious of why she's suddenly in his part of Texas. But neither can deny the desire still crackling between them. When Summer's life is once again threatened, Darius knows he can only protect her if he stays very close to her…

BONUS BOOK INCLUDED IN THIS VOLUME!

Billionaire, M.D. by USA TODAY bestselling author Olivia Gates

Just noticed that the Audible account details page includes a membership history section. From it I see that, since discovering MobileRead a couple years ago, I've enjoyed 21 monthly membership credits and paid a total of $8.85. Thanks everyone!

Absolutely amazing. I finished my 3-month free Prime membership, rolled into the 2-month Groupon, and was able to use the HSN code less than 1 day after cancelling. Ah, the value of disloyalty.

It is pretty annoying that they reward disloyalty when I got no extra perks whatsoever for maintaining a membership long-term.
