I read Death and the Joyful Woman by Ellis Peters. The second in her Felse mysteries. A good story, with good sub-plots. A quick, enjoyable read.

Next up: Sharpe's Sword by Bernard Cornwell. Another adventure with Sharpe.

Enjoying the very good audio reading of this.

Started Alice McDermott's The Ninth Hour this morning on my Kobo.

Just finishing up Artemis, Andy Weir's sophomore effort. A good listen, but with even more flaws than Martian. I'll give it 3 stars, but that's only because it does pull you along. The dialog is strained, at best, and Jazz's internal dialog with herself is just not very convincing at times. But it is fun.

Next up, something a bit more worthy, I hope--R. F. Delderfield's Long Summer Day, the first book in his A Horseman Riding By trilogy. At least with this book, I'll be sure the dialog will be well written and believable.

Finished listening to Neuromancer by William Gibson. I hadn't read it in decades, and while certainly dated, it was an enjoyable listen.

Also, finished reading The Goblin Reservation by Clifford D. Simak, which was an acid-trip of a book. I literally had no idea what was going to happen next.

So, earlier this year I had purchased the Heart memoir I reread a short while ago, having read the paper version a year and a half ago that I borrowed from the library. I had originally wanted to listen to it on audio, so I purchased the Audio version alongside it from Amazon a couple months ago. Definitely my most expensive book purchase of the year.

Couldn't figure out how to convert the Audible file to .mp3 for listening in the car, so i read the ebook. Finally, after a second round of searching for solutions on the intarwebs, I got a workable conversion, only to discover that it wouldn't copy over to my USB drive.

Seriously, I had a working set of audio files on my laptop, but every time I tired to copy them to the drive, I'd get an error, both in Windows and Linux.

A week and a half go by, I try again, still with no luck... was it some kind of DRM conspiracy I wasn't aware of? No: it was the file names: too long and with special characters that Linux is fine using, but a FAT32 drive was in no way capable of parsing.

SO, I have Kicking and Dreaming in my car ready to listen to. The book is narrated by Ann and Nancy themselves, it appears that all the voices in the memoir are read by the people who wrote them, which is awesome. I want to listen to it even though I only just recently read the book, but I will hold off... maybe early next year.

In the meantime, I have started listening to Boneshaker by Cherie Priest and I am reading The Woman Who Smashed Codes by Jason Fagone.

I read and enjoyed Delderfield's "The Swann Saga" trilogy and To Serve Them All My Days. I'll be curious to see what you think of his Horseman trilogy, and if you've read the books I mentioned, how this one compares.

To Serve Them All My Days is one of my favourite books. The BBC/Masterpiece Theater production got me interested, and then I read the book. Even better than the mini-series.

I will be starting Memoirs of Hadrian by Marguerite Yourcenar. So far I've red just With Open Eyes, her conversations with Mathieu Galley, and I've been impressed by her maturity.

You're pulling ahead of me with Sharpe, but I've filled in the holes with audiobook availability at the recent Downpour sale. I'm saving the next for a treat when nothing else appeals.

I've planned to read Memoirs of Hadrian for years, but at this point I can't see myself battling with that paperback! I wish this would come out in ebook format.

Which narrator are you listening to? This is one on my list of Victorian novels to reread and I'd planned to go for an audiobook.

Juliet Stevenson - she has the perfect mix of prim and knowing for really getting the most out of this era.

And a good adventure, but not his best, IMO. Still very enjoyable.

Next up: Dragon's Teeth by Mercedes Lackey. An omnibus of short story collections, and I've read the two older collections before. So I'll only be reading the previously unpublished stories in Part II.

I'm currently reading two:

"The Finest Crew In The Fleet" by Adam Shrager

Each chapter covers a member of the cast of Star Trek - The Next Generation (including their history and their appearances before and after the show). It also includes chapters about individuals who made significant appearances on the show (like Denise Crosby and Whoopi Goldberg). The book was released soon after the release of Star Trek - First Contact.

Doomday Clock #1 by Geoff Johns, Gary Frank, and Brad Anderson

A sequel to both Watchmen and DC Rebirth. Note: This is a sequel to the comic book Watchmen, not the movie (because of a significant difference between the two). Excellent read that begins to explain how DC's The New 52 came about, and why there were so many changes after Flashpoint (such as some characters [like The Flash {Wally West}] disappearing from existence and others suddenly much younger than they should be [like Superman and Wonder Woman]). This issue has me waiting for each of the next 11 issues, the first time in a while that I've been waiting for an issue.

After reading some Literature (great stuff), I'm ready for something where any thinking involved can be tossed out the window like a tin of used 'Spam'.

So....I'm reading an author whom I love: Fred Saberhagen.

And the book?

The Dracula Tape (Saberhagen's Dracula Series Book 1)

This is wonderful and fun, although I'm only about 60 pages into it.

Highly recommended.

Here's the link:

ADDED:

For a take on all the books in the series, see the review written by Amanda Pike: The heart of a great book series. (It's the second review.) She goes through the entire series and gives her thoughts on them. Here's the link:
