Do you know what kind of spider bit you in the shower? Granddaddy long legs (the spider, not the bug) are frequent visitors to my shower ceiling, but none have ever bothered me. They're usually the only ones I see in the bathroom.

We get fairly large brown spiders - look like a recluse but with thicker legs. The bites were quite painful, but not as serious as a recluse bite. Large fang puncture marks left on the skin.

I think I've seen a dead spider similar to the one you described, but they're a rarity in Chesapeake.

This is BC -- we get every kind you can imagine, from little tiny ones up to GIANT ones. Most are supposedly not an issue, unless you're an arachnophobe as I am. But we do have Brown Recluse, and their bite is nasty.

Inside the house we have mostly jumping spiders and brown house spiders (look at Google Images -- I get queasy if I try to post a picture) - the brown house spiders can get quite large and favor bathrooms and hallways. The daddy long legs tend to stay outside, esp. on the deck door screen.

Last night my wife informed me of the presence of some egg sacks of a spider that "looked like a black widow" under the toilet tank. It was a common house spider. I guess I'll catch them and their mom in a jar and release them outside presently for her peace of mind.
