Oh, no...as much as I'd like to be considered a genius, that's the voice of experience, there. You have no IDEA what mortifying TM's et al, I've sent out. I don't TM or use my smartphone that much ('cuz: live in mountains. Phone no work inside house or office. Must walk out in desert, for phone to work for calls/TM. Ergo, mostly, don't use), so I'm not that habituated to the weird crap that "auto-correct" does to my carefully-crafted (ahem) messages. This means I don't automatically look for/catch it, before hitting "send."
Having been whapped by it so many times, I knows it when I sees it! :-) Hitch |

I don't have that problem. My cell phone is the smallest, cheapest, least powerful feature phone Samsung makes, used with a prepaid plan. All it does is calls and SMS, and that's all I want it to do. Anything else is something else's job. It doesn't have auto-correct. If I ever get a phone that does, being able to turn that off will be a requirement. Autocorrect aside, my issue with smartphones is that the stuff I consider something else's job simply requires a larger screen than a practical phone will have. My 7" Android tablet is at the low end of usability, and anything smaller simply doesn't work for me. (I also don't need the cost of the data plan required to do the other stuff. The cell phone is purely to keep in contact when I'm out, the person most likely to call is my SO, and I make or get half a dozen calls a month on it on average.) I know folks whose smartphone is their primary computing device with everything done with it, and I can only stare at them in blank incomprehension. It would not work for me, regardless of what phone I used. ______ Dennis |

I hate it when I do logical things. Tonight I spend ages looking for the towels I use when I go house sitting. I just couldn't find them.
Eventually I gave up and went to get the storage containers I use to pack stuff in when I go house sitting or when I go on vacation to a holiday park. And what do I find...my towels, plus my set of nice, sharp knives. |

I know I've ranted (is that a word?) about it before but this time it is absurd.
I got used to the Idea that certain Publishers, when sending you stuff to read & review, send "big" files (ie 3-5 MB for a novel) today got one and $%#$% they went overboard. I normally get (Downloadd) their Mobi format (since it's the closest to being a "Retail" release) of the book and then unpack it to get a epub (as their epub seems to be an afterthought). Today I got another Novel from them to read, but almost fell off my rocker when I saw the bloated size of it. Attached a screenshot to illustrate. Using Kindleunpack on the mobi I found that there is an image, this image (4770x5850) is 30mb of the 32mb that the book consist off, and they downscale it to 100x100 ![]() |

Looking after my friends' dog at the moment.
Her previous owners never really trained her and let her around other dogs and always kept her in the backyard and never took her out for walks. So when my friends got her a couple of years ago she didn't understand how to do walks and wanted to go after other dogs (and cats, and birds). The lunging after other dogs continued. But in the last year she has slowly started to calm down. She still huffs and puffs when she sees other dogs but doesn't lunge anymore. Until tonight. Apparently she really didn't like the dog across the street because she started lunging. Unfortunately she tripped me up. I've bruised the palms of my hand, skinned both my elbows and hurt my knee. Luckily my elbows aren't bloody, but they and my knee are still deciding what colour they want to be. Knowing how easy I bruise I don't doubt it will look spectacular tomorrow morning. I've cleaned out the skinned area on my elbows, took a shower, made a cup of tea and now I'm going to have to wait for my elbows to stop oozing and dry and hopefully stop being shaky before going to bed. Though I'll probably won't sleep much. Luckily from Saturday the weather will turn colder; I won't be wearing anything short sleeved for a while. |

I'm still somewhat sore. The bruise on my knee is spectacular, the ones on my elbows aren't as bad as I expected. What I didn't realise was that I manage to somehow also hit the ground with my chest; on one of my breasts I have a very spectacular purple and red bruise, luckily it doesn't hurt. Most annoying is the bruise/scratch on my right hand, which is where I rest my hand when writing, typing, using a computer mouse and rest my tablet and Kindle on when holding them. |

What's that in new money? A bit over 32. Yeah, that's not where I want to start out the day. Fortunately, our heat wave here seems to have abated a bit, and we're comfortably in the range of mid to upper 20's in the daytime, with overnight in the mid teens. I can handle that. And we've even gotten a bit of rain. Mostly overnight, where it belongs.
