Correct. And why I think I'm likely to scale my Audible subscription back to a single credit a month -- more and more I'm finding that books I want are covered by WhisperSync. Though right now I have a dozen or so in my wishlist there that I can buy when I'm ready. And I've only got two credits "in the bank".

Yes, I'm reading/listening to it now. It's the first of the Tiger/Del books. I have to say, I'm less enamored of it now than I was the first time through, but I suspect it and the series will improve. Not that I'm tempted to put it down.

I've gone 12 days without a purchase. Quite amazing really. Lots of temptation though. I just keep reminding myself that I won't be able to read it for 3 years and that helps a lot. Looking at my last 2 visa bills with all those little charges from the Audible sales at the end of the year and the Kobo spectacular added up helps too.

It's been a fortnight since my last purchase, in the Kobo 90% sale on 2nd March.

But it was a busy two days - 90 books bought in March so far!

You're right that reminding oneself how long one's TBR is does help.

"Am I going to read it right now, or is the offer good enough that a better one isn't likely to come up in the next couple of years?"

90? Last I read, you had bought just over 50!? Did you sneak in for more purchases? I know you get the Baen Bundle, but that is only 6 or 7 books (since you probably have 2 of them already). Should I poke some more?

Well, it's that the Kickstarter I paid for in February actually became available in March. So instead of counting the 35 back issues of my subscription in February, I counted 36 in March. The details are available in my 2014 reading challenge post (see signature).

Oh, yes, the Lightspeed stuff. True, I should count the scifi and mystery magazines as books, because they pretty much are. I'm still waiting for notification of my Lightspeed account. I got 3 emails saying it is coming, but still waiting.

I bought 2 books using 45% off kobocoupons. Each was under $3. Family request for an old Piers Anthony series. I owned book 2, but can't read it without an ebook.

The emails are very badly worded. Read further through them and you'll see that they contain links and passwords for your three accounts.

I used to like Piers Anthony's stuff, but I started a re-read of Bio of a Space Tyrant, and couldn't stomach the cosy paedophillia.

Some things I can pass off as a product of their times. Others just stick in my craw and really ruin the book (and even the entire work of the author) for me. I had the same reaction to Piers Anthony. Ah, well. There's plenty of other good books available.

This is a weird topic to come out of lurking for, but I am glad I am not the only one who gets creeped out by Piers Anthony. I loved his books in my teens. I tried reading his books as an adult AFTER reading some of his blog and... I just can't separate some of his beliefs from his writing because I see it everywhere in them.

On the ebook addict introduction... I am doing very terribly. I'm getting some good deals (sticking to wishlist purchases and such), but having trouble with the overall compulsions. I also stopped cataloging my purchases.

Umm... no, no no! You *must* catalogue your purchases! Otherwise you might buy the same thing twice!

I had wanted an 'iTunes' for ebooks long before calibre appeared, but it still took me some time to actually start using it. I really do recommend it as an excellent way to keep track of your books. (I've added extra custom columns for price, shop, and whether I've read the book.)

Perhaps set yourself a modest monetary target?

Uh, a catalogue isn't proof positive when in the midst of a buying frenzy, alas. I suppose I was lucky I kept it to only one during the close-to-free-for-all.

While I'm here, I'll report that since March's late start, I've bought four books, for approximately $8 total. Not terrible, but still too much given my aim to reduce my TBR.

On the positive side, I'll note that while I've played the current Kobo contest a few times, I haven't gotten a code nearly generous enough for me to succumb to making a purchase.

I find it easier to enjoy books and movies by avoiding TMI about authors and actors. You are sometimes disappointed, and yes, that affects how you view their work. So, I do understand. My sister doesn't like Piers Anthony because he's sexist. That is what bugs her about him and there are plenty of other authors out there who aren't. Besides, she hates puns, so Xanth would kill her. BTW, I concur about Bio of A Space Tyrant. Read that years ago and wasn't interested in it enough to pursue the series. I think it was the only thing of his that I've read outside of Xanth and I think I stopped on Xanth by book 10.

Anyway, Peachie, the compulsion is hard to fight, but as mentioned, I remind myself that I will not be able to read it for THREE YEARS, and that is helping me. Find yourself a block that is realistic and write it on a postie and stick on your computer monitor.

Now, I have to decide WHICH of the Kickstarter mags I'm going to get for horror and fantasy and since it looks like I get all the Lightspeed back issues, that's like 52 more books. However, since I do not include Baen and Audible monthlies in my total, I think I will back within budget about July.

I do try to do that now.
Unfortunately, I was 16-18ish when I found out he had a blog and was very excited because he was at one point one of my favorite authors.

------
I was more keeping a catalog to see what I was spending. I started it at the beginning of the year, but I had it go back to the middle of November. (My birthday is in November, plus with holidays in December, that's when I do the bulk of my book buying.)

I do need to go punch in an official TBR document for myself as well. (So much work.)

Oh nooooo I bought more ebooks. But Nora Roberts for $1.99 each I couldn't resist. And I hadn't read those before.

$1.99 is a pretty good price, but perhaps not stellar. However, for a favourite author, it's allowable.

But do consider how long it's going to take you to read your purchases. If you intend to read them over the next couple of months, $1.99 is a price worth taking. But if you don't plan to read some of them for a year or more, it would probably be best to not buy those books, as there will almost certainly be another as good or better offer before you get to them.

(This has happened to me several times - I'm trying to be better about it!)
