Well, I survived a near death experience - doing my weekly grocery shopping at Food Lion - from the scourge of out-of-town drivers visiting during a holiday weekend. I was on the exit from the shopping center, which ends at a stop sign with right & left turn lanes. The entrance lanes are separated from the exit lanes by a raised median with the shopping center sign in the middle. As I approached the stop sign, I saw a red sports car (on the main highway) slam on its brakes and reverse ... to -- you guessed it -- turn into the exit lanes -- despite my flashing my headlights and blowing my horn ... sigh ... good thing there was a side lane for the Taco Bell drive through ...
Sheesh! What ever happened to turning around at the next intersection? |

It looks like my computer monitor has died. In the morning whilst getting dressed I always let my computer start. This morning it made all the right sounds, but when I looked the screen was black and the power light was off.
I'm going to test the monitor with a new cable later, but I doubt the cable is the problem. Hopefully my father's got a spare monitor somewhere that I can borrow. I had already planned to start looking for a new, slightly bigger monitor. Mine is over 10 years old and was developing cracks in the bezel from the corner of the screen outward. It does give me a chance to clean up my desk, also behind the monitor and finally get rid of the huge subwoofer standing behind it. That speaker system died a couple of years ago but I couldn't be bothered to remove the subwoofer. |

Found a spare monitor. But it's even older than the broken one and has got a VGA port. I had a converter, but my father needed one when getting a new computer. Since I didn't think I would ever need it again I gave him the converter. So I'll have to get a new one, luckily the local electronics store has them in stock.
I do know what I want for my birthday, though. |

It looks like it just isn't my day today. First my monitor that stopped working. Just now I was checking the weather on my Nexus 7 tablet and it rebooted, which occassionally happens when an app borks, but it didn't go any further than the Google logo.
I had the same problem in February, when I had to send it in and get the motherboard replaced. Then I had it 51 weeks, I'm not sure I can get it repaired for free again. |

The two spare monitors I tried didn't work because the DVI plus in the converter plus to VGA was too long and I couldn't plug it in. My father also had a big and newer monitor which he had bought for the computer in the store about three years ago but he had never installed it. That one works! It's huge 21" or 22" (my old monitor was 19") and bright. I love it!
I called the store about my tablet. The guy on the phone straight away told me that those symptoms indicate hardware problem and are not my fault and should not happen three months after it has been repaired. They now are going to let Asus pick it up at my home to get it repaired again. He also assured me that if it breaks again that they will look for another solution because then Asus will not be able to permanently fix it. |

I've got an email from Asus which says that within 2 business days I'll get an email with instructions how to make an appointment to have the tablet picked up. In March the repair took just under two weeks, so hopefully I'll get it back before 20th when I'm going house sitting. |

Please mr kobo, I'm not staying in Norway today, neither did I stay in Austria yesterday.
But Mr. Kobo, isn't the only one Mr. accuweather is still holding on to the idea that I live in iceland. And yes I did tell Mr. Kobo who I am, yet he still claim I'm in Norway. |

So, first, the phone rang....
...and I answered it, 'cuz we are open on Saturdays.
Minute 1: "hi, I'm writing a children's book, and I saw a post you wrote on the KDP about using certain aspects of bookmaking, so that Amazon would notice your book. I'd like to ask you about that?" (n.b.: not what I said, but...) Minute 6: (still talking, mind you) "...and really, the more I look into this, the more overly-complicated it seems to be, and I'm thinking, maybe I shouldn't continue with this, because, after all, my time is valuable. (and, apparently, mine isn't...I still haven't ACTUALLY SPOKEN, other than the introduction, mind you). Minute 20: "Oh, okay, so you're saying what I thought, that really, I should work on something else. I have SO MANY projects going..." (me: {sigh}). Minute 30: "But if I continue, that means I would have to hire illustrators..." (me: !!!!! WT{insert expletive here}...this is a partly-finished kids' story, that isn't even ILLUSTRATED YET? Partly completed of, what, 34 freaking pages?...I've been on the line HOW long?) Minute 35: "But, I'm working on this non-fiction book with my partner, ..." (okay, so, now, maybe, we're getting somewhere....) Minute 45: "So, can you tell me, WHY would I use YOUR company, as opposed to doing something else, or using some other company? What's the advantage?" (you mean, aside from actually sitting here listening to you for nearly an hour?) Minute 54: "Ok, well, that sounds GREAT. Oh, I should have mentioned, the non-fiction book is about 20 pages long. I'm going to have my partner call you, too, in case s/he has any questions." ![]() My only defense here, is that we make good money on SOME kids' books. This is a sort of never-ending issue--that we get people who DO spend good money on their Fixed-Layout books (including audio, which we resell from a recording co. in the UK), so the time spent on listening to the story of (X) is usually worthwhile--BUT, there are also, "I taped this together in MS Paint and I have $50, will that be enough" tire kickers. I usually try to weed them out fairly early on, but this fellow just ran on and on and on, so fast (and with mobile-phone delay in the line) that it was hard for me to get a word in edgewise. TWENTY pages. Oh, he thanked me for my time, and all that...but it'll take me about 5 books' worth of net to pay for that time. I should have cut it off as soon as I knew that the kids' book was not only unillustrated, but not even fully written--but then he went off into the "non-fiction" spiel. You just never know when something might be worth pursuing. Nonetheless... {SIGH}. Hitch |

I am not feeling well today. I have noticed the last couple of days that I have gotten really shaky if I haven't eaten for a bit and I feel a bit woozy, even after eating. Ugh. I just want to go home and go to sleep. I'm also pretty done with humanity in general today.

Yeah, KK. I WAS going to have my annual like 3 weeks ago but the car going flooey derailed that because I had still be going to my old primary over 40 non-public-transportation miles away (I moved last year). I made an appt. today with a Dr. at a clinic near my work that is affiliated with a well-regarded hospital with a Dr. I saw there when I had strep last fall.
