Barring accidents, it looks like a good win for Porsche with Hulkenberg bringing it home.
I've dipped in and out of it (I haven't got Hitch's commitment) but it's been fascinating. Just setting up the 1-2 cars to cross the line together. |

My dedication is fairly legendary, at least in (what's left of) my family and my crew--they know that literally, somebody has to kick the bucket for me to be disturbed during the 24LM. We really do watch, stem-to-stern. It's my big "hooky day," the Saturday (as the shop is open 6/days/week for 51 weeks of the year), so I enjoyed it--even whilst fighting with Fox over the streaming. ;-) Back to the salt mines in the morning! Don't forget there was a British driver in the winning car as well!
Also pleased to see Mark Webber finish well in second place. He always seemed like one of the nice guys when he was in Formula 1. |

I love the Tour de France, but I dislike how our city council is handling things (though I'm not surprised).
On both Saturday and Sunday the Tour will almost pass our house, which means a lot of problems with how our store can be reached on Saturday and how we are getting in and out of the city from Friday night until Sunday night. Today it was announced that residents, people who own a business, emergency service and others who want to get in and out of the inner city will have to get a permission vignette from the council. If you want one you have to give a reason why you want one and it has already been announced the council will be stingy with giving out the vignettes. Those that are in the various closed off zones should have had a letter telling them what to do. We didn't, as usual (usually students bring around those newsletters and it looks like the one assigned to our neighbourhood can't be bothered to do it properly). You also have until next Monday to put in your application. Also, next Sunday the inner city will be closed off between 10am and 3pm for all traffic except those on foot because of the Ladies Run (we didn't get a newsletter about that either). |

Annoying when you're trying to run a business, for sure. As you say, it's the city council that's the problem, not Le Tour. OTOH, hopefully the extra foot traffic of the Tour will compensate for the annoyance?

We have an electro technical store (light bulbs, electrical cords/cables, wall switches/sockets/etc, parts to make and/or repair light fixtures, etc) so we haven't really got much touristy stuff. Except the converter plugs, but since I expect most foreign Tour-ists
![]() On Saturday morning we have our bi-weekly consulting hour. Sometimes people come with big and/or heavy light fixtures for my father to diagnose. They often come by car, park nearby to unload the light fixture and then go park the car in somewhere. That won't be possible that weekend. I just read that a lot of people in the Tour-zones haven't gotten the letter (yet) and are unpleasantly surprised. Those are the ones that follow local news, those that don't will have a problem. The council has stated that it maybe will extend the period you can request the vignette. I'm still really looking forward to the weekend. Though I probably won't be finding a spot along side the route. We've heard that cycle fanatics from both the Netherlands and other countries have visited Utrecht to find the place they want to stand along the route. |

Stupid panic attacks! I really should get back to doing Yoga (haven't done it in many, many years) and I shouldn't have had that diet coke.

Breathing. I know, it's soooooooooooo trite, but true. My sister gets panic attacks that are disabling. And if all else fails (if you don't have any of the tried and trues in the house), don't forget that a plain old cuppa tea and some crackers, like saltines, work wonders. Carbs of that type (not sugar, obviously) are nature's tranquilizers. It's why unhappy people eat. So, if you can, try to keep tea of some kind around, along with plain-ish crackers, as emergency rations. Or the type of "crackers" that the Brits call crackers, which are almost cookies. Those work too, the slightly-sweetened versions. Offered FWIW. (n.b.: I've used fortune cookies to bring my sister down, with green tea, and that works.) Really? Was this while you were serving? Did they know, or did you hide it? Hitch |

Toast also is one of nature's great calming meals .... hot buttered toast ... with tea ... munched slowly ... and yes, it's quite distracting to have to hunt down every crumb with a moistened index finger ... it can sideline your brain from its frantic state ... and focus your attention on easily handled minutiae that are not scary ...

One really quirky help I've found is snorting freshly ground black pepper to the point of making myself sneeze. I can't remember how I discovered this, but it does work. At least for me |

Sounds a bit drastic, but needs must. And it would certainly distract one from the panic attack to be sneezing your head off.
