But before he said he listed the number of pages, it could have been a typo for word count.

Yes, because it totally makes sense to refer to something with less than 600 words as "really long."

I just finished The Eye of the World by Robert Jordan, and I got hooked, so now I'm plowing through the second book, The Great Hunt.

I read that one years ago and did not like it much, but gave it another shot a few months ago and thoroughly enjoyed it. Not sure what changed, but goes to show maybe not one ought not to give up on a book on the first go around

Just about through with Carl Hiaasen's Razor Girl. Funny as heck and IMHO a great summer read.

/bonk

now I get it. Sorry for the typo on words. Yes, I meant pages.

That explains meera's comment about considering that a short story, which I thought was strange!

It was fun. How could an alt-history hippopotamus western not be? I question whether the western genre was chosen as an homage or for mockery, but I can take a joke.

I found the prose a little bit too purple at times, but that may have been intentional given the genre. The gender obfuscation of a particular character confused me more than it intrigued me. The sentences that used they/their/themself instead of typical gendered pronouns just made the narrative concerning that character difficult for me to follow. I don't mind experimentation, but I don't enjoy having to reread sentences two and three times to figure out what is being said. But as I mentioned: it was fun. I'll probably read the next one.

Next up: Linda Nagata's newly-released, near-future military thriller The Last Good Man.

Military space opera with so many improbabilities that I was laughing out loud. This is one book you just go with it and play dumb. The story may continue in the next installment, not everyone died in the end. Writing skill ok-ish. Just a few typos. Rated D+ [2 stars]

Next is a purchase from April 2015 (!), Sten by Chris Bunch and Allan Cole.

It picked up towards the end. Now I'm going to read an obscure cozy mystery - Chocolate Crunch Murder (Donut Hole Mystery #15). After which I'll be reading Blood Will Tell (Kate Shugak, #6). But I really am holding myself in check before reading A Fistful of Charms (The Hollows, #4).

Lord willing, I'm going on vacation in July and I didn't want to mess with library loans coming available because I'm not sure how available wi-fi will be.

So, I decided to clear all my library holds, and start the 10-book Malazan series. I slowly added the books as I saw them come up on special, and I'm starting with Gardens of the Moon.

I figure this will keep me busy for quite a while!

Abandoned. I didn't care for the author's hyper-active writing style.

I thought I'd try something lighter, Peter and the Starcatchers by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson also purchased in April 2015!
