The Vent and Rant Thread
I can't recall if I had a CoCo 2 or not, but I do know I had (still have in the attic) a CoCo 3. I can't recall now how much RAM it had, but it was measured in kB, in the range of 4 all the way to 512. Mine's probably a 4 kB model, as I don't believe I ever added any memory, and I believe that's what they came with. Wikipedia says the starting price was $399. That may be, but I recall Radio Shack advertising their "regular" price as being $199, and they were always on sale for $99, which is what I paid for mine.

Ugh! I am deaf! My better quality hearing aid is my older hearing aid, 7 years old, actually, and it stopped working.
My second hearing aid was much less expensive and I don't like it as much. I got it in November and it stopped working yesterday! I tried several different batteries. This is awful. It makes it so hard to communicate. I fought getting those things for so long and now I really miss them when I don't have them. |

How annoying for both of them to go out. I hope you can get a replacement quickly - it must be very frustrating!

Thanks, Charlie. It is. At least the new one is still under warranty (I think). The hearing aid people just asked me to come in and I have an apt. after work on Wed.

Let me recommend the company called "HearSource." http://hearsource.com/ The will repair any brand of hearing aid for a flat fee of $99 regardless of what needs to be changed to fix it. They sell their own 'assembly' of hearing aids, using the same internal parts that the big brands use, but without the brand name so the price is 1/3 of what the brand names sell for. They also sell their aids along with the computer interface and software so you can adjust them EXACTLY to your own liking, rather than trying to tell the audiologist "gee, that sound a little tinny.... no... now it sounds a little too fuzzy.... well, I'm hearing a sound like biting into tin foil.... well, no... that's too much like my head's in a barrel... the silverware hitting a glass hurts my ears... Instead of trying to explain, you move the sliders in the software yourself while clanking dinnerware, taking or listening to music, getting the adjustments spot on! The company's audiologist works with you (free) for an hour or two teaching you which sliders control what, so you can always keep your devices working the way you like. The HearSource hearing aid have four separate programs you can set. I have mine set up as 1. for talking in crowded spaces (directional front mic,) 2. general daily use, 3. playing music with friends (Omani-directional mic,) and 4. watching TV or a movie (compressed highs and lows for voice clarity.) The volume control takes care of the rest! Stitchawl |

That is indeed something to rant about. Does your insurance cover hearing aids? I can get a new pair every 3 years and the insurance will pay $1,500. The pair I'm wearing now cost $1,800, meaning I only paid $300 out-of-pocket. |

I'm assuming that they don't repair CICs. Am I correct? |

As far as I know, they still do. My first ones were CICs and they did the repair work. But that was 15 years ago. Best bet is to give them a call. Aaron and his father, Chuck, are the owners of the company, and both really down to earth, customer-service oriented people.
EDIT: I just took a look at their repair page. It seems they have increased their repair price to $129 http://hearsource.com/hearing-aid-repair.html It's showing a CIC in the picture. One time I needed some help to set up one of my programs, and due to his schedule and the time zone differences, Aaron gave me his home phone number to call so we could set up a 'Team Viewer' session at 11pm his time. I was having computer problems with the 'customer software' so he gave me (free) a copy of their commercial software (a lot more control!) and spent two hours via Skype and Team Viewer working to help me. All at no charge. I really love the fact that I can adjust the sound so that it's exactly what I want to hear. And do so without paying an audiologist $100 every time I want an adjustment. These days I've moved on to really large BTE models, and am much better served as they can pack more 'stuff' inside 'em so I can do more with 'em! I'm long past caring about the looks. These days everyone has 'something' in their ears all the time anyway. Stitchawl Last edited by Stitchawl; 05-05-2015 at 11:24 AM. |

Well, the new hearing aid was a simple fix. I am still not overly enthused by the new one. I will see if HearSource can fix my old one.
It is one of those "life, don't talk to me about life" times. I can really go into all the work worries and don't want to go into the more personal worries. I dressed a little more nicely than I usually do on Fridays to try and keep my spirits up and packed plenty of fresh fruit for the day. |
