Thanks Rumpelteazer and kindleworm! Much appreciated. I didn't really keep close tabs on time, but I think maybe 50-60 hours on this.

Hmm. I have found something odd my shed the other day and I am googling for it now.
I know that the guy who sold us this house was a hunter. I have seen a box of used big red shells when we were on the house tour. There was a tall safe screwed to the wall where he probably kept his rifle. I am pretty much used to finding that range from sculls to the whole skeletons of munjacks.
Fine.
However, yesterday I have found another used shell trumped into the earth. I have got a feeling it has nothing to do with hunting weapon. Gevelot 38 SWSP says on its butt? I am no weapon expert. Never used anything except MK16 and Uzi. It looks like something from a pistol? Rifle?

Maybe something ancient from a collection?

Gevelot is a French company that used to manufacture ammunition until the end of WWII. After the war they switched to the car industry and other mechanical engineering products.

The cartridge itself is for revolvers (handguns) and is a 38 S&W Super Police, a variant of the 38 S&W which was developed in 1877. The round is fairly anemic and about as powerful as a 38 Special.

I don't think it's being manufactured any more.

That's in-depth reply I didn't expect.
Thanks.
Maybe he was also a collector of old ammunition? The house is very young, 15 years old, so it could not be there since ...back then. Then again, when they make modern gardens they usually dig up some rubbish in the place and say it is a natural ground. Maybe it was dug up when the house was built and it is a pure chance I found the shell only now.

I don't know about England, but a lot of people here re-load. some just like to, and others have a hard time finding the right bullets. I shoot a fairly unusual calibre, .32 Marlin rifle. I ALWAYS keep my brass. either I reload it, or trade it to someone who does do reloading. maybe that is why that was kept

YW. It's hard to say how it got there. I'm not into collecting, so I have no idea what value this round may have held; but I doubt it had any. The British used a variant of this round as their service cartridge until 1963, when they switched to the 9mm.
