Next is a library loan, The Siege of Macindaw, the 6th book in the very good Ranger's Apprentice series by John Flanagan.

Very enjoyable conclusion to the Macindaw story line. This book contained more emotion than the previous ones. This added some realism to the coming-of-age character development. I'll definitely continue with the series. It's easy when my library has all the books in the series. Rated B- [4 stars].

Next is another library book, Sharp by Alex Hughes, his second in the Mindspace series. I wasn't excited about the first book so I'll try this one to see if the series improves otherwise I'll drop it. Again, easy when there is no monetary cost involved.

I took an entire class on Moby Dick at university. We had the most fun picking apart those allegorical chapters. But it certainly took a great deal of historical background reading and a fantastic professor.

In the same vein, I took an entire class on Paradise Lost and the other works of Milton as well.

Ah yes, the fantastic professor makes all the difference. I even had one that could make Chaucer sound good, almost understandable. (I didn't study Chaucer but he came up as part of other discussions.)

Finished Dead Spots, not terrible. Since I apparently bought more than just the one book, I will probably read the next in the series. Meanwhile, I have the 14th Foreigner book, Protector to read.

Ah yes, Chaucer. I loved the Canterbury Tales thanks to a great lecturer. Didn't hurt that I hit it off rather well with her, either...

The Skin Map by Stephen Lawhead. Just finished it and started the sequel The Bone House. It's a time travel series that is holding up well so far and a solid read.

Another very good mystery. I think I'll add the rest to my wish list.

Next up: Dear Mr Holmes by Steve Hockensmith. A collection of short stories about Big Red and Old Red.

I've finished 12 Chinks and a woman by James Hadley Chase, and three other books meanwhile : Noah by Sebastian Fitzek, Khushwantnama : an autobiographical narration by Khushwant Singh and The Shroud Key by Vincent Zandri. Just been too lazy to note down my progress here.

Now I have started The Sunset Club, a fiction by Khushwant Singh.

I started Leviathan Wakes last night, and enjoyed the opened chapters I read.

I read Adrian Tchaikovsky's Children of Time a few days ago- SF story with parallel story lines converging at a point. First, a generation ark carrying hundreds of thousands of humans escaping an Earth destroyed by wars is desperately looking for a habitable world. Second, a quarantined world used as an experiment for a nanovirus to rapidly evolve higher functions in monkeys, with a scientist and AI in satellite monitoring the planet. Wonderful story.
In past few months I also had the pleasure of reading the end of Cixin Liu's trilogy which started with The Three Body Problem, two of NK Jemisin's broken world series (The Fifth Season, The Obelisk Gate), the absolutely fantastic The Traitor Baru Cormorant, A Taste of Honey, City of Stairs (and the next, City of Blades), We are All Completely fine (Daryl Gregory, who also wrote Raising Stony Mayhall).

I feel bad for you that you are having a hard time finding something good to read. I start and give up on a bunch of books (using Overdrive from the library, so I don't go broke), but fortunately found some books I read recently that were such a relief and pleasure. I posted some authors/titles today if you want to take a look.

Don't feel too bad for me: I am finding time to read, and I did enjoy the Elizabeth Moon book I recently plowed through... just waiting on the next in the series to show at the library (Overdrive FTW).

If all else fails, I could dust off one of my favorites and read. Just not Tolkien, because then I really wouldn't find anything enjoyable to read afterwards, LOL.

Road trip this weekend! I get to spend Friday in various airports, then Sunday for return trip. I will likely kill a few books in the process (and I'm not taking my laptop ).
