I am! I took one of the girls shopping for her dorm room stuff, and found it eye-opening looking at all the stuff for sale through her eyes. She bought necessary things (1 cup!) but not much more.

Green Douglas firs where the waters cut through.
Down her wild mountains and canyons she flew.
Canadian Northwest to the ocean so blue,
Roll on, Columbia, roll on!

Roll on, Columbia, roll on.
Roll on, Columbia, roll on.
Your power is turning our darkness to dawn,
Roll on, Columbia, roll on.

Other great rivers add power to you,
Yakima, Snake and the Klickitat, too,
Sandy Willamette and Hood River, too;
Roll on, Columbia, roll on.

Good morning, everyone! It's later and later every day! I've already eaten a big breakfast, I'm working on the third mug of East India Company's "Royal Breakfast" tea, and getting ready to re-string my guitar for tonight's hootenanny! I've been working on a bunch of old Woody Guthrie songs for tonight. Great sing-along stuff!

Are you eating jook for breakfast these days? (We have a couple of cups of "Cup-'o-Jook" (pork flavor and shrimp flavor) in the cupboard just for emergencies. My wife likes it a lot. Me, not so much. I like to chew.
Do you speak Mandarin well, or are you all talking together in English?

In my cup: Peet's Phoenix Mountain Oolong.
We now have Peets in our grocery stores, but I do notice a difference in flavor when I buy it there or get some fresh from a visiting friend.

Isn't it fun to experience everything we take for granted through other people's eyes? It always made me appreciate simple things more.

Sweet tea in my cup and I will have to get up to find some different coffee beans to grind.

Sipping on a Coke Zero that I picked up earlier this evening, while I was grocery shopping. There's a little caffeine, but not enough to disturb my sleep.

I'm having fun reading about "your girls," bjones6416. My daughter is minoring in Chinese, and will be spending next year interning in Shanghai. (I'm having enough trouble with her just being on the far side of the same time zone -- I am nowhere near ready for her to be in Shanghai!)

Mid-afternoon Lapsang Souchong and watching the rain... now that I'm finally home and out of it!

Don't worry, Cromag. Shanghai is basically like a huge New York City, only safer and you can't read the street signs.

Oh, no, they are happy to help us learn to pronounce their names correctly, but they want to speak English well, and quickly. Ironically, most of them already do. (We had a moment in the restaurant when one of the girls was asking a question to one of the servers, and couldn't understand him because she speaks Mandarin and he spoke Cantonese. One of the other girls came to her rescue - she is from near HK and speaks both.)

I do need your help, though. One of them said sadly that at home she had "corn water" for breakfast everyday, but that it's too complicated for the dorm room. I googled but didn't really find what it is, I don't think. Any insights?

Didn't Ahn once post a recipe for corn milk? Maybe that is what she meant?

Working on a White Pu Erh and some yogurt.

I have great memories of having some Japanese Students live with us one summer. It was a lot of fun getting to know them. It is great that you are there for these students Betty. I am sure it provides them with a measure of comfort at an exciting but chaotic time in their lives.

Recently finished a Sausage & Egg McMuffin with Orange Juice. A rare treat that for some reason I felt I deserved (returning to work, perhaps?).

The stuff in grocery stores tends to be well older. I prefer to buy direct and then freeze the whole beans until ready to use. When you order online, you get beans that have been roasted that day. It really does make a difference!

Fresh squeezed orange juice and Peet's Anniversary Breakfast Blend.

I was wondering that, too. I think I'll go back through her posts and look at it. That may be it because it seems like there was at least some skill in making it right because Anh liked for her sister to make it for her.

First tea of the day. Got the house to myself -- daughter's back at college, and my wife took our son to the (somewhat) local Six Flags for a day of roller coasters and fried food.

I do like Coke Zero better than Diet Coke. If Coke Zero isn't available, I look for diet Pepsi. (Odd. Spellcheck has no problem with "Coke" but doesn't like "Pepsi." It must think I'm talking about coal.)

Lion Mountain Keemun with lunch -- a quick pasta with my own Guanciale and Pecorino Romano, and just a touch of good olive oil.
