I won't even do electrical work here, since the codes are enough different that I could create a hazard.
I built my own home in New England many years ago. I went to the Vo-tec and took Adult Ed classes in carpentry, plumbing, and home wiring, then, with the help of a friend who had done it before, put up the shell until it was tight to the weather. After that, just me and my wife to do all the electrical, plumbing and interior walls. We had two separate electrical feeds in every room, with at least six wall sockets, if not eight in each. The bath had 120 and 220 lines with GFCB on them, as did the kitchen. For plumbing, all the incoming pipes were soldered copper, with the lines under the house wrapped in thermostat-controlled heating tapes (to stop freezing pipes in winter.) The out-flow lines were PVC going into a septic tank followed by a dry-well of six 50gal drums buried in crushed gravel which fed a leach field of 50x50.

But... The only electrical codes for that state at that time (for home wiring) was that the baseboard sockets had to be at least 12" above floor level. Here in Thailand, there is no such thing as building codes that 'must' be followed, only suggestions... Outdoor wiring seen at most intersections around town look like this.... It may explain why so many places burn down.

Late afternoon mug of unbranded Keemun tea as I get my guitar ready for tonight's jam. Have some children of friends from the US visiting in town who will be joining in tonight! Should be fun!

Electrical wiring is easy, if you know what you're doing.*

Black to black, white to white, bare to bare. And turn off the power before you start. The tricky part is when you get into multiple switching, but even THAT is black to black, white to white, bare to bare. You just need to purchase the special switches (as in one at the top of the stairs and one at the bottom, both controlling the same light. Black to black, white to white, white to white, bare to bare, using a 4-wire cable...) It's not rocket science. These days, everything just 'plugs in.' No need to wrap wire.

Mango Lassie, then it's off to play music!

Electrical wiring is fine on straightforward stuff like plug and light sockets (unless you have a four-way set of light switches like us in our hallway, which I have never been able to get right - some combinations of switching on and off of the various switches means they have no effect...), but anything more complex needs an electrician. The regulations have tightened up a lot here recently:

"Under the new regulations, commencement of any work other than simple changes becomes notifiable to the local building control authority; "other than simple" in this context means any work in a kitchen or bathroom other than like-for-like replacement."

So that sounds like the work Stitchy is doing would have to be notified.

Black coffee for me.

Big day today. Did a dump run, ordered a part for a friend's computer, and sat outside breathing the extra oxygen we have here in Paradise while I read a book. And drank more of my Peet's English Breakfast. At 208F this is a good tea. At 195F it's an excellent tea. Both earthier and more citrus notes at the lower temperature. But still bright and refreshing.

I've got sunshine on a cloudy day.
When it's cold outside I've got the month of May.

I guess you'd say
What can make me feel this way?
My girl (my girl, my girl)
Talkin' 'bout my girl (my girl).

I've got so much honey the bees envy me.
I've got a sweeter song than the birds in the trees.

Well, I guess you'd say
What can make me feel this way?
My girl (my girl, my girl)
Talkin' 'bout my girl (my girl).

What a wonderful 'pre-MTV' video!

Good morning, everyone! And isn't it a great one! A mug of my new 'English Breakfast' tea... actually already my SECOND mug of English Breakfast tea beside me. I can't seem to 'sip' this one, I chug it right down 'cuz it's so good! Ready to get dressed and go down to visit the Food Lady.... Yesterday my wife and I took some visiting young folks (children of cousin's friends?) to the top of Thailand's highest peak. We stopped in a Karen hilltribe village along the way, then, because it was so hot we stopped to swim in some waterfalls, then continued to the top of the mountain where we damn near froze because it was in the clouds and about 12° and we were dressed for 32°. They took the obligatory "We're at the top" photo and ran back to the car! A nice day was had by all, especially me!

Time to feed....

Thanks, all! Time for an after-dinner mug of "Yorkshire" tea. A bit bracing for this time of day, but I have things to do tonight so need to be up and at 'em!
