Timely subject. I might have to do a disappearing act shortly. I hope I've only alluded to this in the past and not really talked about it. I have a major major case that has been treading water for 9 years and has even survived and been proofed at both the state and circuit level. I'm in the big leagues now. I think it might be best if I change my user name for awhile. They've asked for discovery on social media. I don't think I have talked very much about them here. I'd be happy to go back to my original handle. This will help mods that have been around for awhile to know who is NOT the defendant

Can't hurt. Although, I admit--I'm constantly shocked by how many people don't read ANY-thing that we hand out. And this isn't surmise on my part; I track, for example, how many people download the "instructions for the Proof form" as well as the proof form. (roughly 2% actually download the instructions--this holds across any instruction sheets we have for anything).

I have a little "trick question" type thing, embedded in the "here's your ePUB and MOBI file for review" instructions...and that never gets caught. We have a bit in the instructions for the ePUB/MOBI that says "To save YOURSELF time and effort, please watch the video," (which takes a whopping 3 minutes) and, sure 'nuff, we get questions that wouldn't even be asked if they'd watched it.

It's a real poser. Granted, I'm not big on reading the owner's manuals for cars. I admit that. But I DO read the manuals for basically everything else I own--devices, doodads, gizmos, you-name-it. It's been a real eye-opener for me, this business has.

Wodin, I'll add that bit to the destructions. Of course...there's an assumption that they'll read THOSE, too, inherent in that idea, but...can't hurt to try.

At least if it says in there that you will charge to teach them the basics, then you will be justified later when you actually DO charge them to teach them how to do the basics. You can point to that line and say "See, we told you it would cost you."

Oh, and I trust you saved that instructional you created for the guy who didn't know how to download his EPUB file (or whatever you just described to us (very short memory these days)). You can just ship if off to the next person who has the same problem....

Oh, yes, trust me: I have canned responses in the HUNDREDS, believe it or not. I ran out of keyboard shortcuts for my AHK ages ago. Now I keep them in a NtPro Outline, for ease of finding and copy-paste. {sigh}.

I would say, "that sucks," but the problem is, it doesn't. It's the opposite. It blows. (Sorry, sorry, sorry, just..there are days I can't restrain myself.)
