Of course there are much larger Salesforce customers out there, now; I was speaking of when they were still Assistly, pre-Desk. Even in "Desk," which is a Salesforce-junior type environment, we're still apparently a "very heavy" email user, it seems. No, we're not the only ones that were bit. Those 400+ emails/day that plowed into my system came out of our historics, and who knows what caused it? I don't know if any actual SF customers were hit; I know it was throughout Desk itself.

Are you running 32 bit or 64 bit Office?
I have the capability for 64, but I think, IIRC, that I'm running 32-bit, because I have an older version of Access. I'd have to check.

Quote:
Back when I still used Outlook, I used an open source Bayesian spam filter called Spambayes. It installed as an Outlook plugin. You trained it by putting about 50 known good emails in one folder (ham), 50 known spam emails in another (junk), and telling it to compare. It built a database of the characteristics of spam, and classified incoming mail against it. It worked quite well, and I never saw it make an error on mail it was sure was spam. It made only a few false positive errors on mail it wasn't sure about. The more you used it, the better trained it got.
I remember this! It worked AWESOMELY well. Now I can't recall why I stopped using it.

Quote:
It's still out there, though not actively developed, and still works. The issue is that it's built for 32 bit Office, and will not work as a plugin in the 64 bit version. You can still install and use it on a 64 bit machine, but you need to install it as a proxy server sitting between your ISP connection and Outlook, so it filters mail before Outlook ever sees it.

See http://spambayes.sourceforge.net/

And worse because we lived in shared Outlook calendars and made extensive use of programmed reminders.

It always can. If you're lucky, it doesn't.

I remember when I had a Cadillac problem, I offered to buy my wife a new Cadillac, and she didn't want it. She made me buy her a BMW instead!

Ugh. My stomach has been hurting since yesterday. I took pepto but I forgot why I don't use pepto. It has a harmless but objectionable side effect for me. Still hurting a bit, so I am going to the Dr. just to make sure I don't need my appendix or gall bladder out or something. :P

My father had a Cadillac problem. Back in '65 my father wanted a new car. He wanted a Cadillac. At the time, a Cadillac was a genuine status symbol, and he figured he deserved it. But... he also realized that I'd be driving it too... and he really couldn't stomach the idea of me behind the wheel of a Cadillac. So instead, he bough a Buick Riviera Grand Sport, powder blue with while leather interior, bucket seats, and wood-grain dashboard. Fastest car on the road 0-60 at the time, other than the Corvette Stingray. If EVER an 18yr old wanted the ULTIMATE Chick Magnet, it was this car. The GTO had the Beach Boys singing for it, but the Riviera Grand Sport didn't need it. It sang for itself!

And, to top it off, there are a couple of small stains I didn't notice on my white sweater and I can't remember if I took my medication this morning. Ugh.

I was just on the phone with a Customer Service rep from one of the major banks, tracking a replacement credit card that was sent out a month ago and didn't arrive.

She asked me what country Thailand was in...

Thanks, Cromag.

That is facepalm worthy, for sure, Stitch. Was the rep from the U.S.? The knowledge of geography of the average American is pathetic. My parents had a subscription to Nat Geo and I tacked a fold-out map of the world that was in one of them on my bedroom wall when I was a kid, so it is hard for me to fathom that level of ignorance.

New Mexico magazine has a regular piece called "one of our states is missing". One time when I sent a pretty important package to my folks it went to Mexico, to 5 different locations

I admit to an uncomfortable level of geographic ignorance, though certainly not at the level Stichy observed. Part of my problem is that while I learned a good deal of geography in school, that was >50 years ago and things have changed. But also, I tend to know a good deal about the macro-geography of an area I've been to, but relatively less about other places. So I know the general layout of most of Western Europe, East Africa, Antarctica and the Americas, I'm really weak in middle to eastern Europe, and have virtually no idea where the various former USSR states are in relation to each other, with a few exceptions. And my grasp of SE Asia is enough to know which countries are there, in a general way, I'm a bit weak on which borders which though I can pick out a couple on a blank map. Overall - pretty pathetic.

Be that as it may... this American at least knows it *is* a country, even though he couldn't be bothered to know where it might be (that is what maps are for ). Somewhere is Asia is more than adequate for me.

Unlike CRussel, I guess I am just happy to unobtrusively google it on the rare occasion it comes up.
