Marching to Zion by Mary Glickman is on sale for $1.99 and the audiobook is $3.99.

In 1916, Mags Preacher arrives in the big city of St. Louis, fresh from the piney woods, hoping to learn the beauty trade. Instead, she winds up with a job at Fishbein’s Funeral Home, run by an émigré who came to America to flee the pogroms of Russia. Mags knows nothing about Jews except that they killed the Lord Jesus Christ, but by the time her boss saves her life during the race riots in East St. Louis, all her perceptions have changed. Marching to Zion is the story of Mags and of Mr. Fishbein, but it’s also the story of Fishbein’s daughter, Minerva, a beautiful redhead with an air of danger about her, and Magnus Bailey, Fishbein’s charismatic business partner and Mags’s first friend in town. When Magnus falls for Minerva’s willful spirit, he’ll learn just how dangerous she can be for a black man in America. Readers of Mary Glickman’s One More River will celebrate the return of Aurora Mae Stanton, who joins a cast of vibrant new characters in a tale that stretches from East St. Louis, Missouri, to Memphis, Tennessee, from World War I to the Great Depression. Hailed as “a powerful reminder of the discrimination and unspeakable hardships African Americans suffered,” Marching to Zion is a gripping love story, a fascinating angle on history, and a compelling meditation on justice and fate (Jewish Book Council).

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00EP6PBFO?

This is the sequel to One More River which is also a whispersync deal for $3.99 when purchased with the book.

If you check your local Public Library you may be able to check out both books to save the eBook cost. Brooklyn and New York City have both books.

I said that the phone didn't recognize the 32 gb memory card that I installed. Actually, the phone does recognize that the 32 gb has been added, but it won't use any of it for some reason. The first, and only so far, call to LG tech support was not helpful.

I may end up doing what you suggested. The phone's good for nothing now but being a paperweight.

Thanks.
You might want to ask on HERE (maybe in the thread where we bought it) for apps that can utilize that 32gb card. Many apparently cannot. MOON+ Reader is one ebook reader app that can (I learned that here).

Or, if you install a file browser app as I did, I then just navigate to the SD card where I put the books, and double click on them to see what will open them. Several apps offered; I don't know if they would be able to later LOOK on the SD card for more books. Also, they may have copied the book to the main memory before reading them. One would then have to keep deleting them after usage.

I don't recall what all I tried for *audio* books, though I installed a few. The above is what I remember about ebooks, not audiobooks. But I did try the "navigate to and double click, to find out what app" on audiobooks too. I just don't know if they would continue to look there.

Silly question, but just in case.

Did you physically move each app to the SD card? Not all will transfer, but Audible will. Not OverDrive, alas. But the phone won't automatically use the extra memory; you have to take the extra step.

Cool Ruth Rendell Sale at Amazon.com

The Crocodile Bird - $1.99 ebook, Whispersync Audiobook $3.49

When the police come to the door at the gatehouse of a remote British estate, sixteen-year-old Liza and her mother know that their lives are about to change forever. After all, Liza watched her mother kill a man—well, more than just one. Having lived as a virtual hermit on the estate, Liza knows nothing of the outside world, but she sets off to find her way with the help of a newly won lover. As she learns about those around her, she begins to discover herself—and just how alike she and her mother might be. Rendell carefully unravels this tale of an obsessive bond between mother and daughter and of hope for a new life in a strange land.

The Veiled One (Inspector Wexford Book 14), $1.99 ebook, Whispersync Audiobook $3.49

Chief Inspector Wexford couldn’t know that the bundle of rags in the parking garage concealed a body—he’d just been doing a bit of light shopping, after all, not looking for dead housewives. Wexford won’t be on the case for long; a car bomb sends him to the hospital, and Inspector Mike Burden must match wits with a would-be murderer. But just how close to the edge of madness must Burden go to catch a killer? With rich characterization Rendell plumbs the depths of human character, revealing the secrets that lie hidden in the most ordinary lives.

The Bridesmaid - $1.99 eBook, Whispersync Audiobook $3.99

Meeting Senta, a woman who looks like a certain marble statue of the goddess Flora, is just about the most extraordinary thing that has happened to otherwise ordinary Philip, who dutifully cares for his mother and sisters in the London suburbs. But as their secret trysts evolve into an all-consuming passion, Philip learns that reality and fantasy cannot be easily separated in Senta’s mysterious, clouded world of secrets—and a deadly lover’s pact. Rendell’s effortless fusion of hidden truths and little white lies builds into a taut psychological thriller of obsession, delusion, and desire.

Going Wrong, $1.99 eBook, $5.99 Whispersync Audiobook

When Guy Curran, a streetwise hustler from the wrong side of the tracks, falls in love with good-girl Leonora, he knows that one day she will be his wife. But as life leads the two down different paths, Guy’s obsessive love takes a murderous turn. Convinced that Leonora’s respectable family has conspired against him, Guy struggles to extricate himself from a complex web of half-truths and artful lies—with a hit man’s bullet. With expert pacing and rich characterization, Rendell artfully constructs an ever-widening spiral of paranoia and desire.

Talking to Strange Men, $1.99 eBook, $3.99 Whispersync Audiobook

Dead drops, coded messages, and a safe house—it’s all make-believe for a teenage spy ring. But when John Creevey intercepts the messages and believes them to be the work of a real crime syndicate, the spy games turn deadly serious in a fiery cocktail of obsession and revenge. Ruth Rendell expertly layers her narrative to reveal the grotesque truths behind her characters’ ordinary lives.

And I was going to stop buying Audiobooks for awhile. I grabbed all the standalone ones.

All the books are in the New York City Public Library Overdrive catalog for cheapskates like me.

Thanks for the advice.

I tried numerous apps, of different kinds. My onboard memory was full, and wouldn't allow me to use the 32 GB to add anything else.

I wouldn't be surprised if the problem isn't something simple. I just gave up and set the phone aside until I could get motivated to work with it again. I'm printing your message to stick in with the phone documentation for when that day comes.

In the meantime, I'll use my little ole antique (ha) flip phone.

If you want to respond, please let me know the thread that you suggest that we go to. Otherwise, thanks, again.

See my reply to badgoodDeb, just above.

I honestly don't remember now if I tried that step. I tried a lot of different things. I'll try it (again). But I will say, "LG: IT SHOULDN'T BE SO HARD TO USE A MEMORY CARD IN ONE OF YOUR PHONES!"

Try this: Get Smart Audiobook Player, the "lite" version is free in Google Play. Then install the app. Next put your audiobooks on the SD card through your PC. Put the SD card back in your phone. Next open the app and go to your Library, tap on the three dots on the right hand side. From there tap on the dots again and you see settings. Tap on that and it bring you to a set of three menus. Tap on the root folder and set your library to your SD card and the app should automatically sync your books. If it does not then manually sync your books by going to Library and at the top tap the circle with arrows and that should do it. If you need anymore help either PM me or leave a message here and I will try to help.

I usually only post books that I am grabbing for myself. I am deeply appreciative of all of you who do this on a regular basis. The three posts I did today took me almost an hour to do and I can now see how much time you guys and gals put into this.

This one's easy. Go to Settings, then Storage, then Apps. Click on each app in turn. That's a button, Move to SD Card. If it's not grayed out, click on it. You won't be able to move Google applications, but Audible, Kindle, Kobo and other memory hogs will move. Done.

I don't know if it's true for LG phones, but my last Samsung phone disabled the functionality to move (parts of) my apps to the SD card. I could put pics and MP3s on the card, if I remember correctly, and play them from them, but I couldn't otherwise free up any space.*

I was so excited to have that functionality back when I switched to my HTC.

*I have cell service from Virgin Mobile (which is really Sprint's no-contract arm), and almost all the phones I can use with VM are lower-end, lower-memory phones.

I should have cited my own LG phone as my source.

I appreciate your comment; I've got to change my current phone by year-end and I'll keep your comment about your Virgin phone in mind.

It's not brand but Android system that is the cause. Nougat now allows you to move the entire app on to a SD card. This had never been allowed before. I have Lollipop which allows some parts to be moved. I believe KitKat was the one that caused all the problems about SD Cards. I think.

Quote:
My Grandmother Sends Her Regards and Apologises

Whispersync: Audible (£2.99) | Kindle (£4.99)

The hilarious, heartbreaking novel by the author of the international best seller A Man Called Ove.

Granny has been telling fairy tales for as long as Elsa can remember. In the beginning they were only to make Elsa go to sleep, to get her to practise Granny's secret language, and a little because Granny is just about as nutty as a granny should be. But lately the stories have another dimension as well. Something Elsa can't quite put her finger on....

Elsa is seven years old and different. Her grandmother is 77 years old and crazy. Standing-on-the-balcony-firing-paintball-guns-at-men-who-want-to-talk-about-Jesus crazy. She is also Elsa's best and only friend.

At night Elsa runs to her grandmother's stories, to the Land of Almost-Awake and the Kingdom of Miamas. There everybody is different, and nobody needs to be normal.

So when Elsa's grandmother dies and leaves behind a series of letters apologizing to people she has hurt, it marks the beginning of Elsa's greatest adventure. Her grandmother's letters lead her to an apartment building full of drunks, monsters, attack dogs, and totally ordinary old crones - but also to the truth about fairy tales and kingdoms and a grandmother like no other.

My Grandmother Sends Her Regards and Apologises is told with the same comic accuracy and beating heart as Fredrik Backman's best-selling debut novel A Man Called Ove. It is a story about life and death and one of the most important human rights: the right to be different.

How To Survive a Horror Movie: All the Skills to Dodge the Kills

Seth Grahame-Smith delivers the definitive, essential guide to making it through a horror movie in one piece. As hilarious as it is useful (if you’re trapped in a scary flick, that is), How to Survive a Horror Movie covers all the bases. Trapped in a haunted house? Check. Stalked by an evil doll? Check. Wandering aimlessly through the remains of the old world as a plague of zombies sweeps over the planet? Check. Grahame-Smith's delightfully gruesome guide is just the thing for horror buffs and anyone who has ever watched a scary movie.
