I've had good luck fighting carpal tunnel by using a trackball rather than a mouse -- my hand merely rests ON the trackball, and doesn't grab, grasp, or squeeze it. Nor do I have to move it around. I just move the ball with my fingertips -- or with the flat of my hand, moving the whole arm and not the wrist (on some days). But your mileage may vary, of course.

I applied the Japanese Peppermint oil last night and woke up with my hand less inflammed. Also, it's no longer numb. It's still painful to use it, but I'll keep applying the essential oil (maybe apply it twice a day) and take it easy until it's back to "normal"--what qualifies for normal nowadays. lol Quote:
Thank you for the advice and concern, badgoodDeb, Freeshadow and CRussel. I'm sure it'll get better in time. It's just a matter of being patient and diligent when it comes to taking care of my needs. My hand's starting to tingle now. Better stop typing as much. (I have one more post to type.) See y'all in a week or two! Last edited by trichobezoar; 02-06-2015 at 02:27 PM. |

I tend to forget -- I also had carpal tunnel release surgery on my right wrist. It helped a lot too. Now I never notice it.
It was day surgery; no overnight stay. Hand bandaged for a few days though.

I'm another trackball user. Have been since the early 90s.

Actually I've preferred trackballs since 1979, when I started work at a place that had them build into the counter tops. Very unique place!

Well, my use doesn't go back that far, but I've used a Logitech trackball since my very first real computer in the mid-80s. Not ever going back!

In the 80s, from '81 on, I used an odd device that looked a bit like a trackball. It was a hemispherical device set in a stationary base that could be nudged in any direction -- so, operationally, it was more like a joystick. I still like that one best, but I haven't seen anything like it in years.
Before that, mice and other "pointing devices" weren't all that common. At least, not in my part of the world. |

Fermi National Accelerator Lab ran on green screen TVs and Xerox 530 computers (paper tape boot up). I imagine the setup was done sort of in parallel with Xerox-Sparc's lab (wherever that was). I should investigate and see when our trackballs went in (they're gone now). Fermilab broke ground in 1968 but the control room certainly wasn't that early. I got there in 1979. Now you've got me curious .....

So my avoid the cold of Northern Wisconsin road trip has taken me down to the tip of Florida, and now back up the gulf coast of that state. Monday I will be in Pascagoula that if memory serves me well from years ago has in addition to a major Naval Base also some very nice beaches.
This rant though is about breakfast this morning at the small club house located on the RV park I've spent the last few days at. There was a vendor with a table out offering pre-paid cremations. I suppose that it makes sense to go where the potential market is good. Nice to leave breakfast with the faint scent of decay, if not death, in my nostrils.

[QUOTE=trichobezoar;3038931]eschwartz, you were belittling her... I've been belittled on forums before and it hurts one's pride--makes one defensive. I'm pointing this out as a virtual acquaintance who respects you... I hope you don't take it personally.
Thank you very much for that, I gave karma. I see the sharks are still feeding. Arwen is gone |
