Wow... you really like to tell me things I already know.

I would not disagree with anyone that said the Kindle doesn't fit their needs. More power to you. However, let's not invent issues that don't exist as reason why the Kindle is bad or others shouldn't want it. Let them make their choice with valid and practical information.

Here's ZDNet market impact analysis on the new Kindles:
http://www.zdnet.com/blog/btl/amazon...48?tag=nl.e539

Basically, they expect sales to go through the roof.

Was that in the press release? I have missed that information. If that is really the case I shall return my K2 for a K3.

discussion of the Kindle as a valid reading device and eco system are actually perfectly on topic in this thread. Believe me, this is nothing when it comes to topic drift.

As a moderator let me say that this long and fast moving thread is great... everyone has been very polite and mostly on topic.

Not to belabor the point, but this is absolutely spot on.

My library is going to start offering ebooks on Monday. And they will be EPUB only. No mobi. Because of this, I had started considering purchasing an epub comp. device to go along with my K1. But the K3 is very tempting ... very, very tempting ... despite the fact I'll be giving up on epub support.

One of my colleagues at work...a very techie person at that...will not buy one of the new Kindles because of the epub issue. He's going to buy a Sony or Nook. He doesn't care about wifi or 3G...but being able to read a book obtained from the library is important. And he doesn't want to have to fiddle with scripts to remove DRM. And I can't blame him. I do it, but that doesn't mean I like having to do it. But as long as there is DRM (either Amazon's or Adobe's) I will continue doing it. But like my colleague, or like my father, general users are not going to.

In the USA. They did not win anything here as there are non German books for Kindle:

Monopolizing USA might make him loose the world.

They wouldn't simply be allowing people to use their stuff though, they would be licensing the right to make the hardware, it would expand the range of kindle hardware available in much the same way that the apps for idevices, android or blackberry already does.

Only for the 5% of the human population living in the States. Even Brits and Australians are “regionally restricted”. The format ware might still be decided in the other 95%.
