dUdE you need to write a cookbook. you are pretty damn resourceful in making up all of these cutural dishes you don't have access to. I thought my family was good but you leave us in the dust!

I just don't believe in 'doing without' simply because something isn't available. I've lived too much of my life in Third World countries. I was brought up to believe that I can do anything I want to do, if I want it badly enough. So far, the only thing that has escaped me is being able to fly. (No, I don't mean drive a plane.) I've got the theory worked out (you just throw yourself at the floor... and miss,) but I'm still working on the application.

Actually, I did write one some years ago. When my son went off to college and had his own apartment, he liked to cook and asked me for some of my recipes, especially my Chinese dishes. So I put together about 50 that could be made quickly and easily, without too much special equipment or difficult-to-find ingredients, printed it out, had it bound at a QuickCopy place, and sent him off to school. That was almost 20 years ago...

You know... that's really not a bad idea.

There are several books around that do a bit of that right now, the 'Secret Restaurant Recipe' type of books, written for people who want to re-create the delight of the Big Mac at home, or Arby's 'Horsie Sauce.' Although mine would be a bit more generic, I suppose it could be done. Thanks for the idea!

Just got back from a Korean tofu house. I had beef tofu soup and purple rice, and all those little dishes and salted fish that come with it. Very delicious, and I'm very full.
