The thing is that Flash is not really the issue at all. It's the control that Jobs is after. He's stance against flash is certainly ideological (see previous post) moreso than technical.

hmm.. in 1981 people said "apple is history.. in 1982 people said "apple is going under".. in 1983 people said "apple is done for".. yet apple is still here too.

jobs can say a lot of things. doesn't mean he's right. doesn't mean he's wrong. but he does manage to sell a hell of a lot of products.

still isn't going to bring flash to the ipad.

you know, if adobe really wanted to get flash out in the public for people to play with they could have released it via cydia by now. the jailbreakers would have all scooped it up. the media would have had opportunities to test and report on it and apple would have looked the fool after ~1M (according to cydia statistics) people did get a chance to use flash on their iDevice. that certainly would have been some pressure.

i don't recall jobs telling any company what to do. all jobs has said is he will not allow flash on apple's devices and his reasons why.

as for overheating ipads, so tell us great designer, how would you fix it? add a fan? where? you do realize that's going to add noise and drain the battery. add some vents where things could creep in? as i said in another thread, it will be interesting to see how other designers handle the heat issue, because it's going to affect every tablet out there.

as for the OS. jailbreak your iphone/ipad and play with the unix OS that actually drives it. you didn't actually think the springboard was the OS did you? unix is a "defacto-standard" (posix too!) has multitasking, and most people consider it "real"

Really? So Adobe demoed a stable, lightweight, battery-friendly version of Flash for iPhone OS, and Jobs turned it down on ideological grounds? Interesting. I didn't know that.

Let's say that's the case. (Again, I don't care about Steve Jobs.) So he wants control so he can milk money out of customers and people who want to sell to his customers. I can't begrudge a business person that. He has no obligation otherwise.

Nor can I. I'm clearly pointing out the obvious, but someone back there a few posts claimed Jobs was doing it for his customers. Not so. And not only that he is taking away their choice as has been discussed.

That's what Apple is all about and has been from the beginning with their closed operating system and all applications having to be "approved" and sold through apple stores, etc. Certainly a business can choose to do that and Apple has, and not only that they have convinced their users to go along with it as well as to pay outrageous prices for the privilege. I can't change that, but I can continue to point out the fault (from the consumer perspective) in that way of doing business.

I just did a search at MicroCenter (I'm looking at maybe getting a new high-end laptop). I sorted by price (I said high-end) and guess who came up with 7 of the top 10 highest priced listings? Right, Apple.

http://www.microcenter.com/search/se...uct&web_group=

and no I'm not looking at Apple notebooks, I'm looking for a new Windows 7 machine.

Might want to edit that a little, since it makes it sound like you think Apple has to approve all applications for OS X, which obviously isn't true.

Nope, Google Ads. I'm going to use some of that tasty aggregate data they've been collecting from Android users.

well you may think apple's systems are overpriced, but apparently people are willing to pay for them. apple had 8% growth in computer sales in 2009 over previous years and continues to grow yearly (7.9% growth in 2008).
