I should have thrown this in much earlier in the thread, but I wanted to mention one small feature I'd like to see. A flush-with-the-case screen. It might not be practical and might reduce the clarity (which I'd be against), but it would make it so much easier to keep my 505 clean if gunk wasn't getting wedged around the edges of the screen. Maybe it's just me... :P

To their amazement, I usually am right, and can preorder the items from their catalog!

That was in Europe, here in US they just reply they don't sell anything that's not on display, or not advertised.
It's perhaps the persons I speak to here, but they seem less helpful in anything outside of their day to day tasks, and are quicker to shove the problem off (my impressions)

Smile 505 + 700 = 600?

I really like my 505 because of its clarity and the formats it supports. I also have a 700 witch I need for annotations, and I really like the touch screen. I have always thought... If they could only combine them. Which they are apparently by removing the extra layer for the illumination. Only concerns are, what about a light? Doesn't look like there will be any room for a book light, I have heard that the wedge is not very good. And, maybe they can provide us with the dictionary which is still missing. Don't need wifi, but where is the dictionary!?

Thanks for the information. I will add a screen capture just in case it will go down.

According to the website, PRS-600 seems to have dictionary function (eDictionary).

if that's true, 700 users can probably expect a firmware update.

I can buy my 505 for 275, I'd be interested in what the 600 has to offer extra (save diskspace).
Sony hasn't really been direct by changing their prices, seeing that 4GB of flash should cost less than $15 for them to install in a device (compared to $7 for 512MB).
3 years ago with the release of the 500,512MB of flash was very expensive. I wonder why the extra $25. Wifi? But we lose 2 cardreaders over the 700 (the SD and MMC cardslots).

Perhaps wifi also required for an additional extension battery?
Anyways, there's place enough inside the device to do so.

Highlights according to the info:
- 512MB memory internal (around 480MB effective user memory, compared to half for the 505)
- 7500 page turns (compared to 8000 on the PRS-500 series)
- Freehand highlighting and annotation
- Built-in Oxford American English eDictionary (=new)
- Intuitive eBook Library software for PC & Mac (God help us!)
- 5 adjustable Font sizes to customize your reading experience (3 on the 505)
- Screen Size: Vizplex 6 inches
- Resolution: 800 x 600 pixels
- Gray Scale: 8-levels gray scale
- 6.9" L x 4.8" W x 4" D (.1" thicker than the 505, but less wide than the 700)
- Weight: 10.1 oz. (9 oz for the PRS505, 10oz for the PRS700)

- Media Formats Supported:
Unsecured Text: EPUB File (Non DRM/ Adobe DRM protected), BBeB Book (Non DRM/ PRS DRM protected), PDF file (Non DRM/ Adobe DRM protected)
- DRM Text: Text file, RTF file, Word file (unsecured) <-(?? Unsecured yet DRM-med word file makes no sense. Is this .doc??)

- Audio: MP3, AAC (Knew it, Sony's proprietary format comes along... .OGG or .WMA would have made more sense, since perhaps people will want to listen to an audio book, but not at 256kbits AAC encoded)
- Image: JPEG, PNG, GIF, BMP (I doubt .gif will mean animated .gif).

Supplied Accessories:
- USB Cable (again no AC adaptor included, but it seems the same one as the PSP)

Rest seems about the same as the PRS-505

Accessories seem to be different covers. SO they haven't abandoned coveors, just making you buy them separately like amazon does.

I went to the site that soilwork posted (thank you, by the way). It states that the 600 will also offer free writing with the included stylus as well as annotation with an onscreen keyboard. If the 700 is upgraded with a firmware upgrade, would it include a free writing app? In addition, I wonder if I could upgrade to a 600 in exchange for my 505. Any thoughts?

I hope the 700 would, that would be great. but a few people have said that the touch screen isn't sensittive enough for anything but chicken scratch, but time will tell.
