The MOBI output plugin converts all units to em for consistency. It tries to convert lengths keeping several constraints in mind, only one of which is the original length

From the Mobipocket page:
The indentation of the first line of a paragraph can be forced by adding the width of a paragraph : <p width="X"> (pixels), <p width="X%">,<p width="Xem"> or <p width="Xpt"> or text-indent: X (%, em, pt, or nothing for pixels) with a style sheet. X is an INTEGER and can be positive or negative for positive or negative indentation. (and it's mostly the same for other lengths) |

Both the Calibre reader and my DX both support EX, even if it's not documented on the Mobipocket page. Of course you have to find a way to inject that into the mobi after it's created, to replace the EM. |

I don't know if this is the right place to say this, but when I converted from html to mobi, the <strike> tag was stripped out instead of keeping the text striked out.

I have a new Kindle Global and have just downloaded calibre. I'm on a MacBook.
I have a 636 page pdf google book that I added to the calibre library, and now am trying to add to my Kindle, converted to mobi. The job seems to be stuck, but I'm not sure how long the conversion should take. I'm not sure whether to stop the process and start over, or whether I've done something wrong. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated! |

Kovid,
I recently formatted a book using Book Designer and then running it through Mobipocket Creator. I then ran it through Calibre to get the chapter tabs in the progress line. It apparently came out well, except it refuses to recognize the page break after the title and author. Instead, it puts the first name of the author on the Title Page and the last name of the author on the TOC page. I reformatted a couple of times and even tried to use the HTML rather than the PRC copy of the book and it didn't change anything. Anything to be done? Jim |

Can't give you more specific advice than reading the section on conversion in the user manual which explains how page breaks are detected and edit the html accordingly.

If you install the calibre source in C:\calibre on a Windows machine and then set CALIBRE_DEVELOP_FROM to C:\calibre, will ebook-convert.exe also pull its code from the python scripts, or is it just the calibre GUI that will do that?
Also, is there a way to find out which python files ebook-convert is using? Like, if you're converting from an OEB book's OPF file to a Mobipocket file, what sequence of scripts does ebook-convert run? I've added a few print lines to __init__.py and other files in some of the ebook directories corresponding to those formats, in an attempt to see when those formats start up, but haven't seen anything show up yet. Thanks for any help! |
