There's a reason there's the concept of 'beach reads.' And there are plenty of folks that do enjoy a nice read while soaking in the tub.

![]() Speaking of insurance companies reminds me of one of my favorite books, Grey Seas Under, by Farley Mowat. A great read, especially during stormy weather. It's a bit slow in the beginning but then it picks up. |

I've been looking at the Glow2 & Glow3.
It looks like you might be able to do the same trick of adding an SD card on those too. The Glow 2 has had its test points deciphered: http://www.temblast.com/blogs/glow2/blog.htm#sdcard The Glow3 seems to be strangely different, I'm still working on it. |

The Glow3 (i.e. the black one) has the test points for SD3 (and not SD2 like the Glow2 & Glow4).
SD3 is used for the WiFi controller. The only way to easily solder in a removable SD card on the Glow3 would be if you desoldered/disabled the WiFi. |

Again, most of my reading is from Overdrive. I'm borrowing books from the library, why shouldn't I favor the most convenient process? But congratulations to you if you enjoy jumping through hoops. |

Just to show that this SD card stuff on the new Nook works:
Code:
root@ntx_6sl:/ # df Filesystem Size Used Free Blksize ... /mnt/media_rw/extsd 114.4G 20.0K 114.4G 4096 |

The hoop is relatively easy to jump through. I read with several eReaders. Choice is good. Last edited by rcentros; 07-09-2019 at 12:19 PM. |

That's great. I appreciate a convenient seamless process to get Overdrive books to my one ereader. I have little interest in reading on multiple devices. Different strokes for different folks. I appreciate your post and explanation rather than "Amazon owns you ![]() |

And sorry about the "Amazon owns you," remark. I should have noted that in my response. |

I find B&N has books that amazon does not have in ebook format but they are expensive for that reason so I was protecting my investment by stripping the DRM. Also, my library system in New York has a pathetic amount of ebooks available compared to Amazon, B&N and Kobo and yours probably does too. You are an intellectual philistine if you don't find the fact that Amazon pulled George Orwell's 1984 off of millions of peoples devices alarming. In a story just dripping with irony, Amazon Kindle owners awoke this morning to discover that 1984 and Animal Farm had mysteriously disappeared from their e-book readers. These were books that they had bought and paid for, and thought they owned. Apparently the publisher changed its mind about offering an electronic edition, and apparently Amazon, whose business lives and dies by publisher happiness, caved. It electronically deleted all books by George Orwell from people's Kindles and credited their accounts for the price. Amazon customer service may or may not have responded to queries by stating, 'We've always been at war with Eastasia. https://yro.slashdot.org/story/09/07...nd-animal-farm Laziness and a corporate entity that owns you because of it in Orwellian fashion. You lose the debate. Last edited by Raphi'Elohim; 07-09-2019 at 11:38 AM. |

I should have mentioned, it's easier to use the Kindle than the Tolinos for borrowing books, but I don't know what it would be like with a Kobo with Overdrive integration. Last edited by rcentros; 07-09-2019 at 12:30 PM. |

BTW, the new Nook has been out for over a month and there are very few reviews to be found. The only ones I've been able to find are the GoodeReader reviews, the eBookReader review and the PCMag review, all of which were uploaded weeks ago. And a review by a MR user here, also several weeks ago. Nothing new. Well, it's a Nook, not a Kindle, but still...
I couldn't resist and ordered the new Nook from the GoodeReader store. It's in transit. It will be my first ereader that's not a Kindle. |

Back to topic on hand, I'm glad BN has offered something new and if they ever do away with ADE/tethering for Overdrive books, I'd consider going back. Consider because all in all I really like my PW as an ereader. I like how it uses the entire screen (without large headers/footers), I don't care about buttons nor large storage size nor waterproofing. It's pretty much an ideal reader for me....I just want it in a 8 inch screen. Last edited by tdonline; 07-09-2019 at 12:58 PM. |
