Speaking of insurance companies reminds me of one of my favorite books, Grey Seas Under, by Farley Mowat. A great read, especially during stormy weather. It's a bit slow in the beginning but then it picks up.

I've been looking at the Glow2 & Glow3.
It looks like you might be able to do the same trick of adding an SD card on those too.
The Glow 2 has had its test points deciphered:
http://www.temblast.com/blogs/glow2/blog.htm#sdcard
The Glow3 seems to be strangely different, I'm still working on it.

The Glow3 (i.e. the black one) has the test points for SD3 (and not SD2 like the Glow2 & Glow4).
SD3 is used for the WiFi controller.
The only way to easily solder in a removable SD card on the Glow3 would be if you desoldered/disabled the WiFi.

Yes, there are some things I don't like about Kobo which made me wait for Amazon to do something about an 8 inch ereader. I was going to give them a year (that was last year) and pleasantly surprised B&N beat them to the punch. As it is, since my reading is almost 100% Overdrive, the convenience of getting my books without tethering is an overwhelming factor. Let's see if Amazon will have something in time for the holiday season later this year?

Yeah, that totally sounds something most people should be doing when they borrow a book from the library.

Again, most of my reading is from Overdrive. I'm borrowing books from the library, why shouldn't I favor the most convenient process?

But congratulations to you if you enjoy jumping through hoops.

Just to show that this SD card stuff on the new Nook works:
Code:
root@ntx_6sl:/ # df
Filesystem Size Used Free Blksize
...
/mnt/media_rw/extsd 114.4G 20.0K 114.4G 4096
That's with a $12 microSD card.

It's a one time process. Once the code is inserted into Calibre (with the DeDRM plugin) it's automatic.

I like reading on different devices, so I appreciate learning how I could read Overdrive books on my Nook.

The hoop is relatively easy to jump through. I read with several eReaders. Choice is good.

That's great. I appreciate a convenient seamless process to get Overdrive books to my one ereader. I have little interest in reading on multiple devices. Different strokes for different folks. I appreciate your post and explanation rather than "Amazon owns you "

About a third of the time I borrow books from Overdrive I use a Kindle. That will probably jump a bit now that I've got the Paperwhite 2. I do like to read on my Tolinos, though — and I can borrow and download books directly from Overdrive using them.

And sorry about the "Amazon owns you," remark. I should have noted that in my response.

Actually, that was for B&N books the library books , on the NOOK, use the old school digital editions method which is easier to get around for stripping DRM.

I find B&N has books that amazon does not have in ebook format but they are expensive for that reason so I was protecting my investment by stripping the DRM. Also, my library system in New York has a pathetic amount of ebooks available compared to Amazon, B&N and Kobo and yours probably does too.

You are an intellectual philistine if you don't find the fact that Amazon pulled George Orwell's 1984 off of millions of peoples devices alarming.

In a story just dripping with irony, Amazon Kindle owners awoke this morning to discover that 1984 and Animal Farm had mysteriously disappeared from their e-book readers. These were books that they had bought and paid for, and thought they owned. Apparently the publisher changed its mind about offering an electronic edition, and apparently Amazon, whose business lives and dies by publisher happiness, caved. It electronically deleted all books by George Orwell from people's Kindles and credited their accounts for the price. Amazon customer service may or may not have responded to queries by stating, 'We've always been at war with Eastasia.

Laziness and a corporate entity that owns you because of it in Orwellian fashion. You lose the debate.

My Kobos are too old to have the "borrow from Overdrive" feature. And I don't have ADE installed so, in my situation, I don't think I could borrow Overdrive books on my (older) Kobos. I've only borrowed from Overdrive on the Kindles and (for ePub) I've borrowed with my Sony T2 and my Tolinos. If I have enough patience I can use these devices ONLY for borrowing (well, I COULD (at least) do so on the Sonys — for some, the Sonys no longer work and I don't have mine here to test).

I should have mentioned, it's easier to use the Kindle than the Tolinos for borrowing books, but I don't know what it would be like with a Kobo with Overdrive integration.

BTW, the new Nook has been out for over a month and there are very few reviews to be found. The only ones I've been able to find are the GoodeReader reviews, the eBookReader review and the PCMag review, all of which were uploaded weeks ago. And a review by a MR user here, also several weeks ago. Nothing new. Well, it's a Nook, not a Kindle, but still...

I couldn't resist and ordered the new Nook from the GoodeReader store. It's in transit. It will be my first ereader that's not a Kindle.

I stated a preference for an ereader and you turned it into a ad hoc personal attack while pushing your preferences. Congratulations you "won" an internet debate. Meanwhile, I'll live my miserable life as I continue my preference for how I get my library books via Amazon. God forbid, that is somehow not that big of deal in my life. If that makes me an intellectual philistine, I'll have to manage and survive this world. Didn't know a preference for an ereader would elicit a "debate" but I suppose some people can't accept other people's preferences or state their own without being a dismissive prick. Compare and contrast with rcentros replies to yours. One shares information and opinion in a congenial manner. The other diminishes. I'll just leave it at that. If you wish to continue this 'debate', just know it will be a one way conversation.

Back to topic on hand, I'm glad BN has offered something new and if they ever do away with ADE/tethering for Overdrive books, I'd consider going back. Consider because all in all I really like my PW as an ereader. I like how it uses the entire screen (without large headers/footers), I don't care about buttons nor large storage size nor waterproofing. It's pretty much an ideal reader for me....I just want it in a 8 inch screen.
