The other option would be to go back to an external sd card. But that seems to be not a thing anymore for ereaders. And of course this can't help the already released NG3.

I am not questioning taking the practical and expedient route to get something out the door that works for some definition of work, but a bandage does not repair a wound.

I am pointing out that the job is not done because the problem can not be with ADE, since Kobo and other ADE devices and platforms don't need separate partitions. If there is some problem with ADE, then a bug should be filed with Adobe.

(By the way, did the NST have the double click and long press actions on the buttons? I don't remember that.)
You could hold the buttons down and quickly page through the book, forward or backwards (which was useful at times). I don't think there was any other use for long presses or double clicks on the buttons.

Hmmm... I was on a trip to the States and got to handle one. Sorry but I'm going to stick with my KA1. The buttons were harder to use—for me—than a simple tap or swipe, the storage for sideloaded books was pathetic at best—0.95GB isn't going to make many happy who are not thoroughly embedded in the B&N ecosystem. The font controls weren't bad but again, I'm used to better ( IMNSHO ). I didn't see much difference in the light temperature control but then I never use that feature. As for the size, my KA1 is larger but gives me a 7.8" screen so either a larger font size for these old eyes or more text on the screen.

Again for me the real deal killer is 6.7GB for side loaded books compared to 0.95GB.

I've never seen a Pocketbook eReader "in the flesh," but I do own a Kindle 4 (black, so is that a 5?) NT. It has a lighted case and I still read on it quite a bit. I do like to long-press a word for a definition or highlighting, however – although it's really not that hard with the NT. I also like the fact that I can clean the screen without having to worry about turning the NT off first.

The Glowlight 3 still has a touchscreen. You can use the buttons, or tap, or swipe.

So you'd be happy with just 1GB for side loaded content?

That was back when B&N allowed direct downloading. More people bought eBooks from B&N. Also, a lot were sold off cheap through Radio Shack. I got mine for about $20.

Oh, give me a break. A lot of Nook Simple Touches sold well from 2011 through 2013 (maybe 2014), well before the time of the clearance sales. At one point the Nook Simple Touch was considered one of the best (if not *the* best) eReader made. At this time, *all* non-Kindle eReaders are pretty much considered an asterisk in total eInk eReader sales.

Not necessarily happy, but I may still be buying a Nook GlowLight 3 *despite* the side-loading limitation. After all, it's not just Nook store content that can be shuffled in and out, you can do this with side-loaded content as well. And I don't really need to carry 20,000 books in my eReader at any one time.

I think that would result in a lot of panicked calls from non-savvy users. Way more trouble than it is worth.

If they decided a partition is a must, it seems like giving users 3GB for sideloading while retaining 3.5GB for B&N content would be a win/win for everyone. Whiners like me would be happy it has more storage than the Glowlight Plus, B&N would have a large partition for their stuff.

It has to do with engineering a way to handle a partition, keep it stable, while still keeping the device compatible with ADE & Overdrive. From what I have heard, a few solutions were tried to do something different with this device, but there were issues with instability or incompatibility, so they reverted to the same way the NSTwG and other devices worked. The GLP was indeed a different beast, which is what created all those early issues with ADE.
So why is it that no other Reader that uses also uses RMSDK doesn't need to be partitioned? It's not about stability. It's about not having enough space for eBooks from someplace other than B&N so when that's filled, your only choice is to buy from B&N.

Actually I do. The more B&N sells, the more they'll keep that partitioned memory in future Readers. And that means less choice. Partitioned memory is not a choice. It's an abomination.
