Then, we'll train you as a master of pyrotechnic effects ... you'll get to blow stuff up, it's legal, and they pay pretty damn well. Downside, you'll probably have to move to California.

The older one actually went to modeling school and tried to get gigs. She got paid once. I don't think it covered expenses. And she and I need to stay away from each other as much as possible these days.

The younger one isn't interested. Unless they want pictures of her reading manga. And even then, I think she'd object. She's going through a very shy phase at the moment (which is rather hysterical to those of us who knew her a few years ago!)

Nope, need a different plan.

Now as I remember my history, there was once a ruler of France called the "Sun King"

pshrynk is sounding like a retired weapons officer. Most of them that I know always want to blow stuff up. (No, I will not do a bad joke about the film Blow Up.)

For me I spent many years working too many hours a day. Formed my own business about 8 years ago and other than a few bad days here and there collecting from reluctant clients, I have never been happier. I get to spend a lot more time with my wife and family. Sure I do a lot of work at night; but, I have always enjoyed working in the evenings and night. It is my most productive period. I am not worth a thing in the morning until after lunch. Reading the comics is about the extent of mental exercises I care to deal with before noon. Like Ricky I charge a lot per hour (but not as much as a lawyer) but do not (normally) work a full week.

well we had to compensate the rather disappointing performance of the one in the sky *somehow* (you'll note that the sun king shone brightest indoors.)

i should charge more per hour because i find i am still sometimes obliged to work in the morning, and like you i'd really prefer to spend those hours reading the comics (or in fact sleeping. why do a thing halfway ?). but my goal is to work 10 hours or less per week as well.

Good grief!! We're practically twins!! All except for the wife and family part. If you substitute in dogs and cats for wife and family, and make your own business go back about 15 years ... then .... well, it's damn near the same story. And, I too am good to pretty much no one before noon.

Well, I've got the "good to no one before noon" part down. All I need now are higher-priced skills.

Actually, I'm quite good at browsing around the internet finding interesting things and writing up summaries of them. Perhaps I just don't market myself correctly....

I originally started out with the idea of being a pshrynk half time and writing half time. Until I discovered that a) I suck as a writer, and b) I'm really good as a pshrynk. So much for childhood dreams.

Damn straight you don't. That's a lot of what I do ... it's just that I'm writing up summaries of the law (as gleaned on the internet from published court cases and codes). Still thinking about something for you to do .... beginning to get a glimmer of an idea.

Oh yeah?? Who says you "suck" as a writer. You certainly write some pretty humorous stuff here ... and I happen to enjoy reading it. So, are you saying that my taste in writers sucks?? Because them's fighting words, panda.

Substitute "pshrynk" for "IT [anything]", and welcome to my world (we have capering gibbons and Zany Carter Deluxes on-tap at every public park bubbler).

Years ago, a chap I knew online who was a writer and editor asked when I was going to take a shot at writing for publication. He thought I showed a grasp of prose and a sprightly style in my messages in the online forums we frequented.

I agreed I could write readable prose pretty much by reflex, but more was required: you needed stories to tell. I didn't happen to have any floating in my head that would expand to a book, so I was passing, thank you.

Loquacity in a forum like this is one thing. Stuff that will sell to a paying market is another.

Pshrynk may be right. And if he is a really good pshrynk, well, we need them.
