The Glo HD is a really nice reader though, the screen is beautiful on mine, very even color, no shadows from the LEDs at all. I honestly don't miss the games at all. If I pick up my reader, I want to read. I can always use my phone if I want to play any of the games that the reader had.

An E is missing ,the word is not verzamling but verzameling.
I have passed this on to Kobo.

Black Bar on Chapter Change Bug?

Has anyone noticed that a big black bar flashes down the middle of the page when going to a new chapter? I have a Glo HD that's factory stock, no adjustments or anything.

I had thought it was maybe because of a cleaned, converted book put on via Calibre but it happens even with books downloaded from Kobo with wifi.

Has anyone else notiiced this? It's really rather annoying. It's not every single chapter but when it starts it doesn't stop and very jarring.

This was discussed heavily in the early days of this thread. As far as I can tell, it only happens with kepubs. I don't usually sideload kepubs, so the examples I have seen are with downloaded kepubs.

I have reported this to Kobo and had an acknowledgement. I'm pretty sure it will be fixed in the next firmware. And the answer to the obvious question is, I have no idea.

There are a number of problems that seem to relate to the NCX toc in ePub books which don't have a seperate file for each chapter. I don't know which firmware version they started happening in, because it has been a while since I have read an ePub structured like that.

* Annotations are listed as being in the first chapter in the file instead of the chapter the annotation is actually in.
* The tick mark in the device's TOC remains beside the first chapter in the file instead of advancing to the current chapter.
* The chapter name displayed on the navigation menu is the first chapter in the file, not the current chapter.
* The navigation chapter-back << and chapter-forward >> controls don't work properly, although I can often make them work by tapping the << or >> icon twice in quick succession.

None of these problems occur in ePubs where there is one file for each chapter, and all of these things worked correctly not too many firmware versions ago (3.16.0 was okay I think?) even for ePubs that have multiple chapters in one file.

Oh I'm sorry I must have missed that. I did read a lot about fullscreen refresh but that's not what I'm referring to. I'm just meaning going from the last page on chapter 1 to the first page of chapter 2 for example.

If by the obvious question you mean when will the next update be, I'd never ask that because I doubt we'd ever really know and things can change even if they ever did release a date for the next update. No worries.

There were two problems discussed at the same time. One was an extra refresh all the time and the other was extra refreshes going to the new chapter. I didn't check back, but my memory said that this was a partial page refresh. For one of the books I am seeing this with, I get a refresh for the whole page, then a refresh of just the text area (not the header and footer) and then "big black bar flashes down the middle" as you are seeing. Another book only has the "big black bar flashes down the middle". And a third had no extra refreshes.

Very true. But someone always asks.

I've seen the second and reported it to Kobo with a sample book. The others all sound like symptoms of the same underlying problem. I'll test and add them to my report.

As to when it started, I agree that 3.16.0 was OK and 3.18.0 is the first time I noticed it. From something that Kobo said about changes on the beta list, it wouldn't surprise me if it started with 3.16.10. I'm almost willing to try 3.17.3, but there's no way I'm going back to 3.16.10.

You are right, it's not something so interesting on an e-reader, especially with the e-ink screen but I must admit that I play Sudoku from time to time ...

It is totally offtopic, people explain it several times,my masterclass was mathematics but i just don't understand the principle of Sudoku.. it just don't want to pop in.

I sideload kepubs on my H20 and for me, the black bar flash on chapter changes only showed up in 3.18.0. I reverted to 3.17.3 and all is good on the refresh front (including when using full screen). I agree, 3.16.10 is to be avoided. My only issues with 3.17.3 are minor: ghosting could be improved (it was in 3.18.0, but at too high a cost!), and it would be nice to be able to turn off the reader when plugged in for charging.

Did you do a factory reset when reverting to 3.17.3?

Yes. Can't tell you whether it's strictly necessary, but I think it's probably wisest.

My apologies to all, especially to the Kobo dev team This Sudoku bug was observed on the 3.17.3 firmware and seems to be fixed on 3.18 ...
