Correct.
The original directions where pretty clear about making a back-up of what you intended to change.

Or

Add 'revert' logic to bspatch so you can:
New File, Patch File => Old File

You can get the old firmware update files from the Amazon update server.
The 'HowTo' do that is a FGA.

You can open the update packages with KindleTool and script the reverting of the files.

I suggest that you copy out the current system image, and then mount it on a (Linux) PC to do the work more easily.

The recent update changed (modernized) the TCP secure protocol the device uses.
Unless you do that, it isn't going to work on modern websites, regardless of how you get there.

Why not follow these directions to install 3.4.2 on your DXG?
After all, one of their reasons for being here is to get a 'fixed' browser on the DXG.

A DXF with Duokan?
Lots of luck with that combination.

Amazon has the bin files for each corresponding step posted on their download server.
How to get older firmware version from the server is a FGA.

I mean firmware .bin files which were modified for DXG on each step. Could you help me manually created them for me to put into kindle to update from modified bin files for DXG? Your procedure is too hard for me to follow. Hope you could help me. Thanks a lot!

The upgrade to 3.4.2 is the only way to get support for TLS. There are still a few web servers that don't require TLS if you want to stay with the 3.2.1.

Even with the 3.4.2 OS described in this post there are still problems with the DXG browser. The memory is very low and complicated web pages can easily crash the browser. The 5-way stick is very tedious and needs a lot of patience to move the cursor around the page. Screen updates are very slow. These problems are also true with 3.2.1 so you should know how difficult the DXG browser can be even when everything is working. Basically, any browser is better than the Kindle for surfing the internet.

These mods are really meant for people experienced with embedded linux and flashing firmware. Unless you are knowledgable with Linux and the way the DXG works, you can risk making a brick. The bin files you want are not the type of thing this website wants to post even if Amazon doesn't complain so you really need to make your own unless somebody can provide them privately.

If you don't have any other way to access the internet maybe you know somebody with the skills needed to make the bin files needed to upgrade to 3.4.2 or maybe you could learn linux. I doubt you would be satisfied even if you were to get your DXG to work with 3.4.2. The browser at best is still marginal.

Please try to find a better way to surf the internet.

That iPad that is being advertised in each post should be better for surfing the Internet.

I once had to use my DXG during a local three day Internet outage.
Just try reading and posting to this forum with a DX/DXG/DXF if you want to know real pain.

I don't think it is that bad to look at some sites with the DX. I'm on 3.3 and not totally sure what to do because the update eliminated the store for me at least on the kindle end. I can still buy and put things on the whispersync and of course can still use calbre.

Think about this though from more of a international perspective. If someone in the developing world is using this for some limited use of say wikipedia or just basic news and then to be cut off is a bit much. Obviously any additional revenue amazon would receive is nil but still.

Well, I currently have only one big size ereader, and I do need it. So if there are high chances that I can turn my kindle into a brick, I will not go into that.

But surely their limitations of worldwide 3G is cruel and unusual.

It was very, very expensive then.
Just guess what it might have been for the millions of Kindles Amazon was (and is) paying the bill for.

Sorry to tarnish any hero-worship here, but history happened and some of us remember it as it happened. The severely restricted non-US bandwidth limitation just happened to coincide with a (quickly deleted by moderators) post by [a certain well-respected member of our community] about how he refreshed a web page on his laptop (tethered via his kindle 3G) while travelling in China, and the full-sized full-color images on the web page shrunk to small greyscale images. I suspect an amazon bean counter had just received a 3G bill from China, and not much time elapsed between his dropped jaw and the new 3G restrictions. This was a sad side-effect of NOT following our MR guidelines to honor the amazon kindle TOS where it can actually cost them money, and we want to help them by making their products and services better.
