I have noticed this issue as well. I have the PW1, PW2, and the Voyage. None of these devices have the same issue. The circuitry at the bottom of the screen on my new PW3 is very noticeable. It bothered me immediately after the unboxing. I have ordered a replacement.

Given the fact that the device's bezel is black, I don't see how or why a black line at the bottom of the screen is troublesome. Isn't it the same colour as the bezel?

Regardless of whether you consider this issue LITTLE THINGS is irrelevant. The fact is that the strip at the bottom of the screen is far more noticeable on my PW3 than on any previous generation that I own, and it is unacceptable to ME. If my replacement exhibits the same issue, then I will assume it is standard on the PW3 and I'll just skip this generation of Paperwhite

Sorry I spend my working life, troubleshooting, repairing, quality control both incoming and out going. Every thing we produce has a tolerance range that has to be allowed for. I would say that if a 1000 devices were built that less that 10 would be perfect and in the old days at least 10 would be so bad that they would have to be scrapped. About 20 years ago I switched to software, and I can tell you if we fixed a bug in the program we missed any where from 10 to 100 bugs. There is nothing in life that is perfect.

Re: the black line at the bottom, you're always going to get some interference with the bottom line of text because of the light cones.
