I hold it so the lower right corner rests in the palm of my hand. Therefore if the cover only has small corners into which the reader snaps, instead of a rim all around (like Amazon's Paperwhite cover) it will be uncomfortable to hold.

Kat - do you not like the official Kobo sleep cover? It's very nice and works very well, imo.

Books don't have protrusions, clasps, or metal parts. (At least not modern ones.) I have tried many covers for my Touch and PW1, and the only one I like is the slide-in cover I have now. It's like the Gecko one, without any clips, clasps, protrusions, or metal parts, but -with- the folding flap on the left to make sure the reader will never fall out. Not gonna happen until I at least find a cover I will (probably) like. |

I decided to go to the shop where I bought it from and complain about it. The service guy asked me to take a new one off the hook and exchanged it for me on the spot. I had to queue but ok, the new one works with no problems. I'm glad I did it in the end, the first one was faulty obviously and for 35€ I should not put up with a bad product. And it happened that I actually used the feature and got annoyed because it put the reader to sleep.

Books don't have IR, metal bezels, glass screens, electric lights, power on buttons, USB ports, touch screens, etc. Just sayin'. The Kobo cover us light, the sleep function works well (physical books don't have that either), the magnet does a good job keeping the cover closed, it's nice looking--not as nice as real leather, but it's a good looking case. |

While I can understand that this protrusion doesn't bother many people, it's one of my greatest pet peeves regarding covers. Anything that I can feel while holding the reader inside the cover (protrusion, metal clasp, a closure tab...) annoys the heck out of me. I've tried at least 4 different covers (including the Amazon knock-offs) before settling on my current Paperwhite cover.
The Gecko cover actually is perfect, if not for the omission of the velcro flap on the left, making the reader fall out after the cover becomes older. (This is according to some users that have a similar Gecko cover for other readers.) |
