Not sure if Android on M96 was the best idea. No wonder why some of the devices are slow.

Anyway I just need larger display to read PDFs. Offline reader is fine with me.

Hi,im new and french.

Do you know serious online market, who sell the Onyx m96 and shipp in france?
I currently lookat ereader-store.de ,
but its german and i dont know if its scam or bad otherthing.
Any command from france (or maybe EU members) on this site?

Other questions.
What is the best for me at this time, m92, m96 or icarus excel, software and hardware point of view and for pdf with lots of images, diagrams and formulas?

I have a Cybook Odyssey 6", its good, but i need bigscreen and scribble eink device.
What is the best choice for me(not sony dreaming 13.3.price is so ridiculus and functionnality very limited.)?

Sorry for my limited english skills and thanks in advance.

Hello rara,

I'm from Belgium (Brussels) and i ordered my M92 from ereader-store.de and i had no troubles to get it in only 4 working days. In regard to your other question, as far as i know, M92 is the same as Icarus excel. I do not own a M96 so i can't give you a reliable comparison. The M92 is OK if you understand how the software works and can live with some known bugs. I'm using it a lot to read big pdf files (some +200 MB) and very satisfied, but you should know the limitations.

Feel free to ask me anything about the device. You can also find useful information on the main topic about M92.

p.s. On top right of the referred website you can click to change language to english.

Maybe in the long run they would be able to introduce new features more easily on an Android system.
Yes, M92 was nearly perfect in pdf file handling. If they had solved few more bugs it would have been great.

What is surprising to me is that OnyxReader in M96 has less features than the one in M92. They will ofcourse make it better in subsequent updates, but i wasn't expecting it to be like this. I thought that New OnyxReader will start where they left it in M92.

I was very excited about Android because i thought that we will not be dependent on Onyx developers anymore. I assumed we will find apps tailored to our unique needs in android market. Now after reading your reviews and seeing how only OnyxReader is the most optimized one for e-ink screen, we are back to square one. Leonid mentioned in digital-reader blog that he is using Xposed framework to customize android to his needs. That's great.

@Booxtor:

Do you have any idea why on other PDF readers or scribbling apps (other than the Neo Reader) the annotations are "flashing" while you're writing them? Maybe this can be addressed by a OS update?

No spare time at the moment but the M96 seems to be the fastest 9.x inch e-book reader so far (I know the Kindle DX, M92 and JetBook Color 1/2, too).

As you're able to install your own Android packages (there is no 'installation protection') a lot of flaws with the included software could be solved otherwise.

After using the device for a few days I'm satisfied with the performance and the overall features.

Of course there is always room for improvement (CBR/CBZ Viewer, ...).

I presume this is due to the OS platform change, i.e. they had to develop a new reader app from scratch.

Hopefully - if it gets to their attention - developers will easily make their PDF readers more e-ink friendly, i.e. add options for high-contrast themes/colors, font emboldening etc.

Koreader (KindlePDFViewer) is the app that still makes of Kindle DX a decent pdf, djvu, epub, cbz reader.

There is also Koreader port for Android now, possibly a Google Play item soon, with the appreciated help from testers here on mobileread.

Yes, I agree. But at the same time i wish that they update the software quickly.
Everything improves very slowly in eReader world. Onyx gave updates for M92 at regular intervals but gaps were very long. From my experience with Onyx, M96 will definitely become the most functional eReader and new buyers should prefer this over M92 if they can wait for the firmware to reach its potential.

It appears to be available for download on the KOReader Nightly builds page.

Thx, I just tested it, on the M96 the app just hangs when you try to open a PDF.

That's unfortunate, but probably expected considering that the Android port is only a few weeks old, and a stable release is not available yet.

I think it would be helpful to report issues in the dedicated thread, or, better yet, at KOReader's issue tracker.
