Then I know what the issue is. A hash is stored in the settings file that is used to check if the rules document has been changed (if so, a new xml must be created). Usually new settings are created when they do not exist, somehow this time that does not happen quite right. I now know where to check and will fix it.

When I first ran S&R this morning (my time) the add-in went into a long think (tens of seconds), there was nothing to indicate it was 'thinking' - i.e. no spinning wheel pointer etc. I was about to exit Word via Alt/space+C when my first 'Process tables' message 'popped'. I let that one do its thing (they are auto corrections), and then my second 'Process tables' message 'popped', it requires intervention.
My guess is that the 'long think' was probably the process when it adds the Whole Word column to my replace rules document (which is quite large) and transforms that into the ePUBToolsSRRules.xml file. And, yesterday I just didn't wait long enough and did the Alt/space+C exit. Since then of course there are no noticeable delays - S&R is now lickety-split slick ![]() I'm not inclined to restore my replace rules back to 1.12.2 state to test my hypothesis. Bottom Line : you may need to pop a "Please wait - converting replacement rules" modal dialogue - maybe with some sort of progress indicator. I would be wary of relying on spinning pointers. In Windows 10 the pointer is sometimes misleading. For reasons best known to itself it sometimes gets 'stuck' on a specific pointer e.g. the double v. bar or the spinning wheel etc, the only way out that I know of, is to logoff/logon - it's damned annoying when it happens BR Last edited by BetterRed; 10-03-2015 at 05:18 AM. |

Yup, the first time can take a while with large ruleset document. If you change the document and restart Word, it should create/update the XML in the background to avoid the waiting.
I will create a pop-up to inform the need for the wait. I try to avoid changing the mouse pointers, because indeed this can be misleading. |

In my current beta I have added a progress indicator to show the processing of the rulesets so the user at least knows what is going on. This should only occur once after each change to a ruleset. I have also made some other small changes, I expect to release this beta tomorrow of Tuesday.

I took the plunge and upgraded to Windows 10 this week. At the same time I upgraded Office 365 Personal to 2016. Epub Tools loads into Word but is apparently soft disabled. It stays in the inactive list even after I manage COM add-ins, select its check box, and click okay. I can activate/deactivate ABBYY's COM add-in with no problem so it's probably not my own user error.
More info: 1.13.0 worked after the direct upgrade to W10, but not after I did a clean install. Epub Tools from January 2014 works (the last .exe version I have) but none of the .msi versions since then will activate. I think it may be a dependency issue. I installed the Visual Studio 2010 Tools for Office Runtime but still no go. Suggestions? More: I had 1.13.0 work after restart and install, then upon shutting Word down and running it again, it was inactive again. So it's not certain that it worked when I did a W8.1->W10 direct upgrade. That might have been the same kind of temporary thing, since I only checked that it was there; I didn't do any work or restart Word in the couple of days before I did a clean install of Windows 10. Also, the January 2014 .exe version does show up on the ribbon, even after Word closure and restart, but most of the functions (Settings, etc.) don't work. So unfortunately that's not a temporary solution for me. ![]() Last edited by TDR; 10-07-2015 at 12:46 PM. Reason: More Info |

Same story here - after upgrade of my Office 365 Epub-Tools ceased to work and does not appear in the ribbons.
I looked into <Options/Add-ins>: Epub-Tools is registered but in a funny fashion (see attached screen shot). Any help appreciated! Klaus |

Is the add-in enabled? Have you checked that .Net Framework 4 is installed? The screenshot looks normal to me though. Last edited by Toxaris; 10-08-2015 at 09:14 AM. |

AppData\Roaming\Toxaris\ePUBTools.cfg is there. .Net Framework 3.5, 4.0, and 4.5 present. Along with VSTO 2010 I have the x86 & .x64 2010 Visual C++ Redistributables (among others). Anything else? Thanks! Last edited by TDR; 10-08-2015 at 10:46 AM. |

Changed my whole MS Office from Office 365 /2013 to Office 365 with a new 2016 installation. EPUB-Tools has been completely restored now and is on the ribbon again! I do not know what happened to my recent installation (it was Office 365 with 2013). Checked all my workflow with EPUB-Tools - and it runs without problems.
Btw: op system is Windows 10 latest release, Office is 16.0.4229.1029 now. @TDR: did you uncheck the tic marks in the Option/Trust Center/add-in part? Maybe you should completely reinstall the Office 2016 and deinstall the 2013 version before if this is not too inconvenient. |

Trust center add-in ticks are not checked. This is a totally fresh W10 install of Office 365 Personal 2016. No 2013 before it. I'll try a delete & reinstall.

Can you open the settings file with an editor and check the following setting (if it is not there, just create it: Code:
<ConfigValues>
<OptionName>locVervang</OptionName>
<OptionValue>location of S&R rulesset document with document name</OptionValue>
</ConfigValues>
Code:
<?xml version="1.0" standalone="yes"?>
<ConfigOpt>
... previous code ...
</ConfigOpt>

I reinstalled Office and Epub-Tools 1.13.0 and it showed on the ribbon, but nothing worked. Then after a few Word restarts it wouldn't show on the ribbon anymore, just as before. I then did your config file alteration, activated Epub-Tools in Word, and it showed up again... and everything seems to work. I made a dummy epub from start to finish with it. Everything seems okay now. Thank you! |
